My 3 teams made a total of 8 + plays in 3 games and I my opponents made 4 against me.

Is this coincidence or it's the effect of the new fielding? Granted I always have a bunch of A+ range guys on my teams but I don't recall seeing that many + plays in only 3 games.

Anybody else has noticed something like that?

If so, I'm starting to understand why the price of D has gone up that much.

12 + plays in 3 games seems extreme but I wouldn't be against having defense play a bigger role in the game.

Ever since they drastically cut down on + plays a few years back, I've felt the infielders weren't getting their fair share of great plays. The top range 2B and SS couldn't even get to double digits in + plays, guys like A+++ '82 Ozzie Smith, '80 Garry Templeton average something like 7,8 + plays, which is way too low compared to A+++ OF who get 40 to 60 +...

Remember, the target for the historical cream of the crop at a position is 30+ plays over 162 games assuming the average number of opportunities. Reverse is true for the historical bottom.

There better be some plus plays funksteady. The price of range has really gone up... Check out 1885 Jim Fogarty. Both OBP and SLG are below .300 but he still costs almost $5 million for 674 PAs, presumably due to 3 positions with A+ range.

With one game and two teams there were a collective 1 + play and 2 - plays.

Three teams, so 6 games total so far today:

++ = 5
+ = 2
- = 1

So with the target of 30 "+" plays for A++ fielders and 30 "-" for D-- fileders, does that mean my 1989 Howard Johnson who always gets over 30 "-" plays at SS will actually improve? Sweet!

My teams have routinely averaged in the D range for fielding range -- looks like several hundred "-" plays for me if I keep the same lineups.

On one of my teams I was getting away with with D- guys at 1B, 3B and RF. I don't think I'll be doing that again.

Better yet, look at how much darin erstad and billy north went up. I just can't stomach almost 6 mil for those 2.
