I'm firmly in the camp that he should have 1 crappy AB added to his totals and basically be a good hitter. Curious to see what happens.

I'll put my money on the crappy hitter line. these pitchers are supposed to hit well but they never do. could be a flaw in the programming.

There was a bug, a few years ago, where one pitcher was 1 for 3 in his season, with his only hit a HR.

Sure enough in the sim, his batting average wasn't anywhere near .333, but nearly all of his hits were HR's. They adjusted the sim to fix that flaw.

Let's see if they get it right.

Larsen has just pitched his last regular season game this season and the results are in:

AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI AVG OBP SLG OPS
66 12 19 1 0 7 13 .288 .299 .621 .920

It looks like 1 crappy AB is the rule.

Interesting...

Still, it's hard to see exactly what happened here. Those are good numbers, but he was playing at Coors.

Perhaps a better test would be to see how he performed at 60M in WIS Stadium.

I don't think an "average" hitting pitcher is going to hit 7 home runs and slug .621 over 66 AB, even in Coors. I'm pretty sure seels is right -- WIS gave Larsen 1 crappy AB and kept the rest of his stats.

That what I thought crazystengel. 7 home runs is a TON of home runs for a pitcher. That is exactly why I thought Larsen was perfect for this experiment-He did something that there would be no chance for a pitcher with made up stats would do.
