Home/Road Splits & Ballpark Selection Topic

So, my first team is wrapping up its season and I tried to follow ballpark selection advice in the forums here and chose my stadium before drafting my team. I think the problem is that I chose an extreme stadium (Safeco) as I'm 46-27 at home, but just 29-45 on the road. Two other teams used the same stadium I did and one is 52-25 at home and the other is 34-36. The other team with a winning record at home seems to have taken the opposite approach to team building that I did as I spent 70% of my salary on my offense and he spent just over 41% on his offense, but the other team with the lsoing record spent 63% of his salary on his offense.

I know that the $$ distribution itself isn't as important as to how it is specifically distributed, but still. Am I better off changing my strategy, or changing to a more neutral stadium with a more balanced team? Or, is this just a small sample size and I should just try again with a few tweaks?

Tweak it - thats the whole fun if this game.

You can do two other things. First, look at your opponents' rosters. See what they're trying to do to gain a home field advantage. You might want to use a ballpark that will take away your opponents' advantage. Another thing that I often do is to build the best team I can then look for a park that suits my team. You'll have fewer preconceived notions as to who to draft and that opens you up to more possibilities.

I'm not sure what you're asking. You dominated at home and you're asking if you should change ballparks? To lose more games?

You gimmicked your stadium well although I'm going to guess that given your road record and the fact that you are a noob, your overall team structure isnt too good. Anytime you are wildly better at home, keep that ballpark. If you change parks, you might be 29-45 at home as well as 29-45 on the road.

You are right that dollar distibution is irrelevant. So stop worrying about it. I will say, however, that Safeco requires certain attributes in players, and those attributes are harder to find amongst the more expensive players. I'll also say that offense is the hardest part of this game to understand. The more runs your team scores (and the other team) the more pressure is put on your knowledge of scoring runs.

Thanks for the tips, I think I'll try Safeco again with a few tweaks to my team.

So, after two seasons in a progressive before it folded, I am trying my 2nd open league team and first post-update team. I did try a different stadium mostly because it was similar to the one I used in my progressive, but I am in the same position as before.

About 70 games into the season and I am drastically better at home than on the road. I'm playing in Riverfront and am 21-13 at home and 14-21 on the road.

I'm close to both my division lead and the wildcard, so would like to be able to make the playoffs, but am afraid my road record might keep me out. Is there something I should be doing differently?

My team leads the league in SB and is 2nd in HRs, 4th in runs scored. We are towards the bottom in the pitching categories though.

Personally, I'd say don't worry about it... If you an win at home, the road wins will eventually come. Winning at home is half the battle. You appear to be good at tailoring your team to your ballpark, so how about trying more common or neutral stadiums so that you play many of your road games at "home"?

Not much you can do about that particular league you are playing in now. I agree with just4me.

After I got frustrated with my first few teams, I looked at all of the teams I played against in the open leagues. I found out what was common among them and which stats were preferable or beneficial to score runs in those parks.

Then, I chose a home park that played to those strengths in the extreme even though the park is neutral. Therefore, I was able to have a home advantage but compete on the road. You can't control what other users pick as their home park but you can build an offense that can compete in most parks.

Hope that helps
