How does Darrell Walker's best season go down to 61 defense and Brent Barry is one better at 62 defense in his best season?  Swen Nater, Kevin Love, Troy Murphy, and Jerome Williams are now all virtually unusable. WTH ! ! !

The Nater dip makes me saddest because he's one of my favorite bigs to use lately, but I can't say I have a very informed opinion about the kind of defender he was IRL.

We can quibble over exactly where Love and Murphy should be with their D ratings, but really, neither should be above 50.

JYD has a career Drtg of 101 - in his often used 99-00 season he had a drtg of 101 and lead his team in DWS - WTF sports gave him a 35

I don't know if anyone else has checked on the cost of players, but I just put a team together that was the exact same team as one I have playing now.  I wanted to see how much difference there would be defensively.  There was and is a quite a bit of difference, however the cost of players has come down. The team that is already playing had about 2.98 left from the 42k.  Now the same team has $1495.00 left.

Ash.. I had actually forgot about us drafting the exact same starting five in that league. That kind of made me a happy camper.  Obviously I can't hold a candle to your ability to put together teams together so I felt really good about that one.  Now on to this defensive change. In the past I have felt that defense really made little to no difference in the games.  I guess I could be wrong but to me rebounds, usage and shooting % were far more important than defense so even though the formula they came up with seems dumber than a box or rocks it may actually have little impact on teams.

Have any of you noticed that in some leagues that just started, some teams are still being able to us the old defensive ratings?  In league NBA37535, which just started (2 games now), some teams still have 56 Bill Russell as 92 rated, Vince Carter at 81, Kevin Love rated 93, etc.  Yet, when I tried to draft my team, all of those players were greatly reduced.  How can this be happening?

Well since the players also reduced in price it is hard to say just who got hosed

Well, i can say this...i'm even less inclined to make a team w/this new system then i was before...& i can't remember the season, mabe the '85 season? Bird isn't listed as 100% at SF...i'm not going into ALL the B.S. again, i'm just saying.......the reasons for not playing, out weigh the reasons for playing..............

Take a look at the 83-84 Celtics.  Bird isn't 100% at SF.  Neither Dennis Johnson nor Danny Ainge is 100% at PG (and Johnson is 100% at SF??).  As a team, there are less than 3400 minutes that are 100% effective at PG.

This was the response I got from you know who:

"We did not force teams back to the draft center for this release. Salaries are always accounting for the difference, so if a player like Love has a higher rating, his salary is higher too."

This is total BS too, b/c these players only cost about 200K more.  Who wouldn't pay that little to get Bill Russell from 73 to 93, or Vince Carter from 60 to 81?

seems to me like defense has basically no impact on salary...most of the guys who lost significant portions of their DEF rating seem to have lost like a couple hundred thousand at most in salary
