I figure this is gonna take 4 days to sort out:

Day 1: 2 of the 3 86-win ALC teams play.
Day 2: The winner from day 1 players the remaining ALC team. The winner of this game is the ALC champ.

Billy S beat When Life Gives you Lemons, and Curveballs beat Tris Team.

Tomorrow we should finish this up, as the two winners will play to (finally) decide the ALWC

And Curveballs beat Billy S (my team) to win the ALWC and end this 4-day play-in extravaganza.

Interestingly, both Curveballs and Piniella won their 1st round divisional playoff, and now face off in the ALCS.

And to think the geniuses at MLB have just “solved” problems like this by going to tiebreaker formulas. Because we all know deciding things by division record is much more exciting than playing elimination games.

It's still possible for a 3 way tie for division and WC

Here's a perenially tough division from a progressive. It takes over 90 wins just to get in contention for 3rd place lately. Between 1985-2005, there have only been two seasons that the division leader had less than 98 wins. There have been 20 100-win teams during that time, with four of them missing the playoffs. In the league's 29 seasons, the division winner has averaged 100.3 wins per season.
