"Use Mopup Only When Losing" Topic

tbh, most ML managers would not have brought in Jack Quinn to face one batter than pulled him with only mop-ups and closer left in the 'pen.

THIS is where I still think the real logic breakdown is.

Agreed. Sparky does not seem to evaluate who he has left on his bench/in his pen before he makes a move.

I always thought the "rest player" settings under the Managers picks determined when a blow out was occuring and when it wasn't. (in the Mgrs opinion) I thought that setting applied to the Mop Up role as well as the fielders.

WIS needs to explain their logic of what they determine a blowout to be (use Mop Up). I noticed the comment that they consider the Park as well.....??

Connecting everything (including Mop Up entering the game) to the "rest players" setting as I had thought was the case anyway would help in this situration. (my opinion)

That whole scenario is crazy, which is why the only time I even consider designating a "Mopup" guy is when I'm using a tired innings eater pitcher and kind of expect to lose anyway and don't want to use my pen.  I usually set my equivalent of "mopups", i.e., my crappy AAA guys, at "setup A " with a 5 min and 10-15 max pitch count (depending if they give up homers).  This way, the damage they're quite capable of causing to your team is somewhat limited because they'll be pulled as soon as they run into trouble, which they often do, and a better reliever will come in and hopefully get you out of the inning.

I've had it happen to me too, but  infrequently.  It works much more often than not.  I don't consider one abberational loss to make or break a 162-game season.  When the game's important, I make sure anybody who I don't want getting into the game is set to rest.

I had a similar situation in this afternoon's games.  Up one run, top of ninth, THREE relievers available (rested, ready to go), "Use Mop only when Losing" checked, and Sparky brought in the Mop.  He allowed an inherited runner to score on a FC (interesting line: 2/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, Blown Save) and I won it in the bttom of the 9th, but still ...

And as for not using a mop-up, I ususally don't for the reasons cited herein.  Sometimes, though, a Theme's limits almost force you to go with one.
