The rate should be 'per plate appearance' which is to say 'per innings fielded'. A player with identical fielding and hitting stats, but four times the PAs, should cost four times as much.

The "cookie" status of low PA 'A+' catchers isn't because low PA catchers are terrific deals compared to other 'A+' catchers. They are good deals, because A+ arms were underpriced across the board, so they were good deals relative to other low PA choices same as 500PA A+ guys were good deals relative to other 500PA players with inferior arms. If you increase the price of A+ arms across the board equally in price per plate appearance, that should solve the underpriced cookie problem.

That's why you're seeing some of the best armed, weak hitting catchers increase in price. Their new salary is more inline with their value in the sim.
Is this approach to pricing scary to anyone else? Seems like it completely defeats the purpose of the game. The whole idea is to MANIPULATE your 80million better than the other managers. If you start overpricing every player that does one thing well, massive parity ensues. How are you supposed to win more than 81 games if you can't manipulate something?? No more buying doubles for a doubles stadium, walks for a -hits stadium. Heck, no more buying an all walks player for your leadoff hitter anymore or an all hits player to bat cleanup.

I'm thinking that guys like Carter (rated at C as secondary position) were not adjusted with the same flat rate, or any flat rate, reflecting their A+ arm. How else can one explain the difference between the 1975 Carter and the 2003 Lieberthal, as an example?

Carter is 590 PA/.270 AVG/.273AVG#/105 AVG+/17 HR with a 3# HR/100, .360 OBP/72 BB and a 49% CS% for $6672.

Lieberthal is 561 PA/.313 AVG/.314 AVG#/120 AVG+/13 HR with a 1# HR/100 .373 OBP/38 BB and a 18% CS% for $6452.

Granted, Lieberthal has an overall better bat but who would you rather have behind the plate to stop those 'dome/petco/dodger stadium run run boys?

I think that steals now are going to be a premier strategy in OL especially. Unless, someone pays the dough for a top-flight catcher which would be the only way to offset this. I hate to say this but maybe the price of steals should go up: well steal PCT should make a player go up.

Man, if the '53 Williams had an A+ arm, he'd cost $Texas/PA.

While their $/PA is higher then some other players, their salary remains much lower

I see two problems:

1) As everyone else has suggested, the flat value of a catcher's arm way overprices low PA catchers with great arms. While I agree that a straight per PA rate undervalues low PA guys, I think WIS over-compensated. What would make sense to me would be if the rates were bracketed: relatively high for the first 150PAs, moderate for the next 350PAs and a low rate for the next 150PAs and extremely low for anything past 650PAs.

2) It seems that you have just exchanged one set of cookies for another. The new salary structure way underprices low PA hitters. 2003 Wilson Delgado is only $250K for example. The old salary structure, however, more reflected reality. Defensive specialists that ride the pine are normally cheap in MLB; guys that will reliably hit .300/.400/.xxx off the bench- even if it is for only 60 ABs- normally are not.

Is the "flat rate" applied only to A+ arms? I was just looking at the WW and saw 1930 Moe Berg there. 66 PA, B/D/A-, and his AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS #'s are:

.108/.124/.153/.277

His price?

$734,181 -- or $11,123/PA

Now just for comparison's sake, also on the WW is 2009 Paul Bako. 130 PA, C-/A/B, and his AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS #'s are:

.226/.307/.324/.631

His price?

$998,203 -- or $8,158/PA

Shouldn't Bako be way, way, way more expensive than Berg?
