normal depth

Why would you walk a guy and then bring them in? Once you walk the guy you want to play at double play depth... Not really the same thing.

My 2 cents
Then why not walk every lead off hitter in every inning so that you can set up the DP? Winner, Winner-No Chicken Dinner

Why don't all managers do that then? I suppose it depends on who I am walking. Bonds = Yes. Doug Mirabelli = No.

First batter in top of the 8th triples, do you as the manager bring the "infield in" or leave them at normal depth?
(Your infield is above average)

Yes: I bring them in

No: Normal dept

A lot would depend on the offenses and bullpens of the two teams. Having said that, I'd probably keep them at normal depth because I have the bottom of the inning. I'd get last at-bats.

If I have an advantage with a strikeout pitcher on the mound and a batter who isn't much of a contact hitter I play normal depth and hope for a K. If it's a pitcher who pitches to contact against a hitter who is tough to strikeout, I bring them in
My thoughts exactly... It totally depends on the pitcher, batter and who is on deck.

Look at it like this. If a runner is on third with nobody out, especially the leadoff hitter (who likely would be a speed guy), the odds say that whether the infield is in or out, he will eventually score, irrespective of who your pitcher is. Therefore, I take my chances with the infield in and at least have a CHANCE of cutting him down. And even if the batter gets a hit past the drawn in infield, the odds are that you'll have no worse than a runner on first with a chance for a DP with the next batter.
