I can see being easier to advance from 2nd to 3rd, but how it is easier to score if a ball is hit to RF instead of LF?
I guess it depends on the park, but I'd say it's easier because a runner can watch the plan unfold in right as he rounds third and heads for home...it's easier then for him to go or put on the brakes. In LF, the play is behind the runner as he heads for home so you have to make up your mind sooner
Also when the throw comes from LF the catcher is facing both the runner and the throw. When the throw come from right field the catcher must field the throw then turn to the runner.

Sorry, I'm gonna go with jfranco77 and his 52 titles on this one.

More balls are hit to field in OLs almost without fail.

Take out the '' and insert 'right' and you've got it.

In OL, LF has a slightly higher range factor than RF.

fielders average 3.7 PO/g and RF average 3.6 PO/g according to the stats here. Though LFers have slightly fewer assists than RFers (0.08 and 0.09 respectively.)

Still, like I wrote before, I have always been of the opinion that the better overall fielder belongs in RF for the reasons already mentioned.

Not to take anything away from JFranco, but Boog has a pretty impressive sim baseball record too:

JFranco 77:
Record: 44380-36397 (.549)
Playoffs: 274 (56% of teams)
Finals: 79 (16% of teams)
Championships: 52 (11% of teams)
Owner Rating: 82803
Teams: 493
TOC Championships: 2 (2.5% of TOCs, 4.1% of teams)

Boogerlips
Record: 6262-4570 (.578)
Playoffs: 40 (56% of teams)
Finals: 18 (25% of teams)
Championships: 12 (17% of teams)
Owner Rating: 17838
Teams: 72
TOC Championships: 3 (17% of TOCs, 4.2% of teams)

Honestly, I am not sure you gain much wisdom past 10 teams or so-- if you play your teams right.

Thanks for all the input and suggestions guys. Here's what I'm going with:

1B-Rice
LF-YAZ
CF-Beltran
RF-Lynn

I put Lynn in RF since my starters are all righties . . .figure that there will be more LH hitters faced and that the RF will get more chances. I'll post later on how these guys did in the field (especially Rice at 1B).

So, here's the results:

LF-'67 Yaz C+/B- .967 10+ 0-

CF-'08 Beltran A/A+ .986 27+ 0-

RF '79 Lynn B+/A- .977 18+ 0-

1B '78 Rice B+/C .996 0+ 14-

This team scored enough runs, but Joe Nathan blew up as the closer. which killed any chances of them making the playoffs.

Did RF get more chances than LF? Just wondering...
2/28/2010 8:32 PM
Good question. Here's the breakdown:

LF 267 PO +9 ERR = 276 chances

CF 353 PO +5 ERR = 358 chances

RF 245 PO + 5ERR = 250 chances

So, my assumption of playing my 2nd best OF in RF due to an all RH rotation bombed. I guessing there weren't as many LH/SH hitters as I thought there would be, or ???????

Maybe if Lynn had played in LF he would have hauled in some of those bombs that the staff gave up.
