I play in an over 30 baseball league (even though I'm 43). Very competitive league with a few ex-major leaguers (Rick Miller, Jason Bere, John Roper) and many ex-minor leaguers.

One of the things my father gave me at Christmas last week was a box full of old Sports Illustrated magazines that he found that I had subscribed to and had sent to his house after he and my mom split. Most of them were from 1995 and I was thumbing through them and found a blurb about Jason Bere and how he was an "up-and-coming" future ACE! Of course, SI also mentioned several other future "stars" like Vaughn Eshelman. It just goes to show how many players can be on top of the world in moment and be out of the game in the blink of an eye.

The writers did, however, hit the nail on the head with their description of Chipper Jones as one who will be a star for years to come and be a future Hall of Famer.

I still play at 42, OF sometimes SS or 2B. For the first time ever since I can remember, I failed to lead the league in SB this past season because I missed too many games due to injuries. I still got the need for speed though I'm really starting to feel the hurt from the sprinting and sliding. Getting injured more often and healing slower. And it takes more time to recuperate between games.

We did win the championship last summer thanks to our MVP starter and great overall offense.

Don't know how long my body will allow me to go on but I still love the game with the same passion as when I first started. Also I noticed my eyes aren't as sharp as they use to be, very obvious when reading the ball on defense and getting harder to catch-up on them fastballs...

I'm having a lot of fun playing slow-pitch these days. My game is speed, both on the bases and in the OF, so I hope my legs hold up a long time.

The progression appears to be: Play, Coach and then Umpire but I would like to see more players umpire to learn the rules....guess which one I am now. :)

And, yes Coaches, how could I forget those darlings.

Still play slowpitch softball. Mostly at P. Took one team to second place (no playoffs) and lost in the semis to the eventual champ in the other. Kind of got stuck in the Pitcher role and I miss the hell out of playing the field.

I want to find a 30+ baseball league this summer (35 now) so I can get back to 2nd, 3rd or OF.

I play slow pitch softball one night a week. Team plays in "A" division and we used to be pretty tough but last 2 years have finished .500. I'm the oldest guy on the team and one of the slowest runners in the league. I've been thinking about retirement because while the stick is still there the knees are starting to go and as others have said it is a speed game.

I batted a robust .160 in eighth grade and haven't looked back since.

I played through high school, and went to Australia to get a shot after high school (I didn't get drafted). Played semi pro in Australia trying to get a shot, because college wasn't for me. I was a light hitting catcher with no speed. One scout said I was the only one that could stretch a triple into a single. I hit .271 that year 2 errors and threw out 31 of 36 baserunners.

Still, drawing no interest I came home went to college and got a crappy job. Started playing again in a fast pitch league 25 and over. Then went to 30 and over. Retired 2 years ago at 39. Knees just can't take it anymore.

I miss the hell out of gunning down baserunners!

I coached 7th grade girls basketball for a year while in college. On the partents vs kid night I had to stand in for anyone who didnt have a parent there. The rest of the parents decided that they were just going to give me the ball so as not to embarras them selves. I felt like Kobe shooting every time down the court.
