Alright, so I entered the Rebels in the league, and now, I await the Schedule!

It appears as if Al Atkinson is going to be the Opening Day Starter...

Jim Murtrie: "[The Rebels' thought process] was that [Atkinson] would be better equipped to handle the problems that may arise, pitching against the best hitters in the world. John is young, and this might be Al's final hurrah. I think the orginization owes it to him, plus Al is confident, and a run or two in the first won't bother him, whereas it might bother John, or Nat, who we plan on bringing along slowly..."

The Brooklyn Dodgers came to town and the Rebels won an Exhibiton game started by Atkinson, 2-1. Dan Casey started for the Dodgers, and went 8 innings, giving up two. The Dodgers led 1-0 (on the strength of a Jerry Denny single in the 2nd off Atkinson) in the seventh, when Abner Dalrymple launched one into the oblivion, with Yank Robinson on second base.

The Rebels would like to wish everyone a verry Merry Christmas and a happy 1886! Haha, really 2010!

ha... yeah thank you, i really just wanted to do something that would force me to stay with my team, rather than just wading through the season, checking what happened every few days... I appreciate you reading it though

The schedule is set... we are in the AL East, and we will open with four at the Polo Grounds, tangling with the Quakers of Philly... it is so on!

Opening Day!!!

GAME 1: Philadelphia Quakers 0-0, (Tony Madigan, 0-0) v New York Rebels 0-0, (Al Atkinson, 0-0)

Al Atkinson pitches horridly, but Chief Roseman and Jim Manning have 5 RBIs combined, as the game is taken to the 11th, before the Quakers win, 11-10.

GAME 2: Quakers 1-0, (Frank Mountain, 0-0) v Rebels 0-1, (John Healy, 0-0)

Healy goes eight innings, and Yank Robinson steals three as well as drive in two, as the Rebels blow out the Quakers, 9-0.

GAME 3: Quakers 1-1, (Tom Lovett, 0-0) v Rebels 1-1, (Nat Hudson, 0-0)

Hudson goes seven, and Roseman triples as well as steals second and third in the same trip around the bases. The Rebels win 5-4, as Laskey gets the save.

GAME 4: Quakers 1-2, (Pete Wood, 0-0) v Rebels 2-1, (Al Atkinson, 0-0)

Abner Dalrymple steals second, third twice, home, and helps Roger Connor steal home by executing the double steal. Buck Becannon picks up the win in relief, 4-3.

NEXT UP: Four at home against Milwaukee, then to Providence to play the Drunken Irish four times.

GAME 5: Brewers 1-3, (Toad Ramsey, 1-0) v Rebels 3-1, (John Healy, 1-0)

A no-decision for Healy, as the Rebels squander a 6-1 lead, and Laskey loses, 7-6, despite 2 RBIs from Fulmer, Nicol, and Roseman.

GAME 6: Brewers 2-3, (Henry Porter, 0-2) v Rebels 3-2, (Nat Hudson, 1-0)

A 13-inning thriller in which Mountjoy picks up his first win of the year. Trailing 3-2 in the 9th, 2 errors and a passed ball gifts the Rebels a tie, and the first pitch of the bottom of the 13th is absolutely crushed by Dalrymple- a WALK-OFF HOME RUN!!

GAME 7: Brewers 2-4, (Toad Ramsey, 1-0) v Rebels 4-2, (Al Atkinson, 0-0)

A 5-run third inning and three triples helps Atkinson get his first win of the year in relatively easy fashion, 7-1. Roger Connor and Abner Dalrymple, meanwhile, are quietly becoming the best 3-4 punch in the AL.

GAME 8: Brewers 2-5, (Henry Porter, 0-2) v Rebels 5-2, (John Healy, 1-0)

The Brewers take an early 3-1 lead, but the Rebels fight back with three in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead. In the sixth, the Brewers take advantage of some errors to take a 6-5 lead. A run in the eigth ties it, and Chief Roseman drives in Connor in the 9th for a dramatic walk-off win! Bill Mountjoy picks up the win.

UP NEXT: Four on the road in Providence, and then four in Washington. Right now, we are tied for the best record in the Majors, and lead the AL East by two games. But, the true test of a team is how well they play on the road.

Press Conference with Abner Dalrymple after his walk-off last night:


Q: Abner, what were you trying to do with the Home Run pitch?
A: Well, actually, I wanted to take. I saw the fastball come at the outside corner, and just turned on it. I was hoping for a single so I could steal.

Q:Do you think that a play like that can change a season?
A: I don't know. It's happened before. But, we have to take it one game at a time. We're 4-2.

Q: How did you feel rounding the bases?
A: On top of the world. It was so incredible. Roger was at home plate, saying, "You did it, you did it!" We had $10 on whoever hit the first home run. Just a fun little side bet, but yes, I am $10 richer. I'm just so happy.

Q: Your name and Roger Connor's name are both being mentioned in the MVP discussion. How do you feel about that?
A: I'm ecstatic just to be thought of. There are so many great hitters, like Dan Brouthers and King Kelly. To be mentioned in the same breath as them is exhilirating.

GAME 9: Rebels 6-2, (Nat Hudson, 1-0) v Drunken Irish 5-3, (Jocko Flynn, 0-1)

Leading 6-1 in the Top of the 7th, the Drunken Irish put in their defensive replacements. Two errors are made, and a 3-RBI Dalrymple triple are the highlights of a 7-run inning. Laskey holds on for a save, Mountjoy gets the win, 10-7. Jack Glasscock has 3 RBIs, as well.

GAME 10: Rebels 7-2, (Al Atkinson, 1-0) v Drunken Irish 5-4, (Charlie Buffinton, 3-1)

A real back-and-forth affair that includes a Home Run by Jim Manning is eventually won by the Drunken Irish, 6-5. Mountjoy gets hit with the loss, falling to 3-2.

GAME 11: Rebels 7-3, (John Healy, 1-0) v Drunken Irish 6-4, (Pud Galvin, 1-1)

A close game is broken open in the 6th, where the Rebels score eight. Healy picks up the victory, improving to 2-0. Roger Connor has his best game yet, with 3 RBIs. Defensive replacements, including Dasher Troy, do well for themselves as well.

GAME 12: Rebels 8-3, (Nat Hudson, 1-0) v Drunken Irish 6-5, (Jocko Flynn, 0-1)

The Rebels fall into a big 7-1 hole, and can't dig their way out of it, losing 7-5. Hudson loses, falling to 1-1. Yank Robinson, in a bright spot, hits a 2-run homer.

NEXT UP: Four in Washington, then we come back home to start Divisional play against the Columbia Park Athletics. As of right now, we are tied with the Wakonda Augas for the lead in the Division, at 8-4, but the Senators are right now, the best team in the AL at 9-3. We have a tough schedule in front of us.

GAME 13: Rebels 8-4, (Al Atkinson, 1-0) v Senators 9-3, (Charlie Ferguson, 3-0)

A game that included a three-run jack by Abner Dalrymple was one the Rebels let get away. It was a crazy back-and-forth affair that we lost, 12-10. So marks the first losing streak in Rebels history.

ok, I had Strep Throat, and while I was gone, my beloved Rebels went 11-3, including a beautiful 7-game win streak... we are now 19-8, four games in front of the Augas for first place in the Division. So, now, I'm back and we're doing great.

GAME 28: Rebels 19-8, (Al Atkinson, 4-0) v Cardinals (Adonis Terry, 1-2)

The Rebels take an early lead, but lose, 9-4. The elusive 20-win plateau is reached by two teams in the AL West before us and the Pirates of the NL East. Al Atkinson suffers his first loss.
