seble, thanks for giving us the opportunity to comment on all this.  At a quick glance, here are my reactions:
  • Great to see efficient offense and overall scoring being valued higher relative to defense.
  • Overall, most salaries seem so much lower that I'm unsure what the impact will be on the game.
  • Mainly, I'm concerned that rebounding is undervalued given its present importance in team-building strategy.  I know I'm one of several users (most of whom win a lot more than I do and so presumably understand the simulation engine better) who generally consider rebounding the first or second priority in putting together a competitive team.  Seeing the best seasons of Moses Malone and Dennis Rodman each drop about $2 million in price makes me wonder whether rebounding would essentially become a level playing field (and so virtually a non-factor) because it's so cheap.  I'll be curious to hear what others think.

I agree with Brad about rebounding being undervalued. Add Bill Russell to those guys whose price dropped as well for each season. People will be seriously loading up on boards even more so than now.

I have to agree with longtallbrad in that the salaries seem pretty low. I think I can build a superteam and still have cash left over. I also agree with his assessment of rebounding. It is one of the main things that I look at.

But on another note, since everyone would be using the same pool, it might increase the enjoyment since you can have pretty much anyone you want on your team.  As long as eveyone plays by the same rules, then anything can work, we can adjust

The top end salaries did come down quite a bit, but the average is actually a bit higher.  So you'd save a little on stars, but the role players will be a bit higher.  I was worried about rebounding being undervalued.

agree with earlier posts about rebounding. Been working on a team for some time now, wondering if i will have to adjust said team. At what point do you anticipate making this active?

This is only a first pass, don't start changing your drafting strategy based on this.  As for a release date, I don't know.  Depends on how long it takes to iron out the wrinkles and get the new position effectiveness numbers in place.

I'm not sure thinking about the average is even relevant. Maybe the 95th percentile might be more relevant. I'm guessing these players got cheaper because of the devaluation of defense. That's fine. Probably should up all if the multipliers by a percentage to raise those salaries back up

Or just adjust rebounding. And drop the open league cap.
8/18/2010 1:35 PM
The open league cap would def. need to be dropped to adjust to the new salaries.

I'm going to be positive first - love that Peja, Rice, etc have had their salaries raised. Great call.

Still don't think we're close yet, but it's a start. I'm going to review more intensely when I get a chance and offer legitimate feedback.

Let me also say - thank you, Seble. Good to see ya (no sarcasm).

I agree. Upping the cost of 3 pt bombers.. and offensive efficiency if done correctly should allow use of some of the older less similar friendly players.

Good to raise cost of 3 pt machines.  Echo need to raise salaries, prob 10-20%.

Great to see this moving toward release.

Really appreciate it.

Wonderful news.

You could double the salaries and it would be a very enjoyable game.
8/18/2010 2:18 PM
Yea, too cheap overall.  As someone else said, looking at the "average" salary throughout the universe of players isn't necessarily a correct method, since a large portion of those players go completely unused (looking at the top 5% or something of the best rebounders, best scorers, etc, seems like a better method, maybe).
