124-38 season -- how brutal will the playoffs be? Topic

I just completed my most successful regular season ever at WIS, winning 124 games with a 1990 prog team.  This team was stacked top to bottom, and we enter the playoffs completely rested.  We were consistent all season: 62 wins in the first half, 62 in the second half.  Longest losing streak was 2 games.  We finished the season with a 15 game win streak.  We had the best overall offense (scoring nearly 200 runs more than the second place team), and the second best ERA.  Rock solid team, and I'll probably never manage one as good as this again.

My question is simple.  How quickly will we be eliminated from the playoffs?

I'm thinking first round, in 4 games!

Jokes and forum jinxes aside, I think you're going to win it all.  I almost ran the table in this same league with my 1985 team (went 11-1 in the post-season) and your club is better than mine was by a fair margin.  We had the best regular season record that year - so it's not always true that regular season juggernauts meet a quick demise.

It's always impressive to see an owner put together a progressive juggernaut; most progrs are full of owners who pretty much know what they're doing, and this is no exception.  To compile a roster that lays waist to the rest of the league is quite an accomplishment, and a tribute to one of WIS's best owners.  Congrats on a great season crazystengel.

Going against Clemens in a short series isn't going to be fun. If you get past that I say you breeze past the rest.

Thanks for the kind words, contrarian.  We know playoff upsets happen regularly, though.  In this prog we've had 2 other 120-win teams and neither won the WS.  Not that I'm complaining (or preemptively complaining, as the case may be), as I've been on the other end of the equation, too (an 80-win team knocking off the league's best).  We'll see how it plays out, but no matter what happens from here on in I've had a very fun season with this team.

Yeah, Clemens will be tough, especially against my team which is nearly all right-handed batters.  He had 4 regular season starts against us, going 2-1, and in only one of them was he less than stellar.

I say you get to the championship series and lose in 7 games, that way it will hurt that much more. It is what WIS does!

To extend the parallel with my 1985 team, we faced a 1st round opponent featuring '85 Gooden.  He shut us down in game 1, and I was fearing a 3-2 series loss with all 3 losses to Doc.  Turns out we beat him the 2nd time we faced him and never lost another game that postseason.

Well, we've avoided the sweep, at least:

Clemens was pitching okay, but I think was pulled too soon.
