1980s prog quiz Topic

I'm in a prog that started in 1980 and just finished its 1989 season. Now that we can see career stats, I thought I'd ask the experts here if they could guess the career leaders in the following stats:

Runs - Correct. Henderson scored 1303 times, well ahead of second place finisher Dale Murphy with 1212 (Murphy incidentally led the league in Games, 1619 -- missed just 1 in 10 seasons)

AVG - Wade Boggs was 2nd with a .347 average.

SLG - Mike Schmidt is correct, with .608. Among batters with over 4000 at-bats, Eddie Murray was a distant second at .557.

Strikeouts - Steve Carlton was 8th, with 1610 K's.

"+" Plays - Rickey Henderson was 12th with 42 plus plays.

I'll update the first post as correct answers come in...

With all those runs (and presumably batting leadoff), I'd guess Rickey led in walks and OBP too
5/12/2010 1:24 PM
Rickey was 3rd in BB and 4th in OBP.

By the way, for AVG/OBP/SLG I'm only including batters with at least 4000 at-bats.

AVG - Boggs
+ plays - Ozzie
5/12/2010 1:35 PM
He already said Boggs was second in AVG :)

I'll just take a crack at the ones I haven't guessed yet...

Hits -
2B - Brett
3B - Coleman
HR - Rice
RBI - Rice

W - Seaver
S - Fingers
WHIP - Seaver
ERA - Seaver
Shutouts - Seaver

I already guessed K's, but I'll throw Ryan and Seaver in for that. Ryan should have been the obvious first guess

Ozzie had 78 "+" plays, good for 3rd (but 1st among non-outfielders).

2B - Brett was 3rd with 401.
3B - Coleman was 19th with 47.
HR - Rice was 8th with 240.
RBI - Rice was 16th with 909.

W - Seaver was not in the top 25 (this is the 80s, not 70s!)
S - Fingers see above
WHIP - Seaver "
ERA - Seaver "
Shutouts - Seaver "

Nolan Ryan had the most K's, 2642 -- more than 700 ahead of his closest rival, Fernando Valenzuela with 1910.

Wow, I didn't realize he had such mediocre years in the 80s...nevermind lol.

I'll take another crack...

W - Carlton
S - Lee Smith
WHIP - Don Sutton
ERA - Carlton
Shutouts - Carlton

I was gonna post, then I realized I joined this prog in '88...LOL

(I think I have one of the offensive leaders on my roster, no?)

5/12/2010 2:34 PM
HR - Schmidt or Dale Murphy
5/12/2010 2:36 PM
I'd think HRs was Dale Murphy as well
5/12/2010 2:40 PM
+ plays possibly Kirby Puckett
5/12/2010 2:44 PM
Last wild guess would be Dave Stieb for wins
