Hello, I am in the process of drafting my first team. I played Fantasy Baseball for 15 years and our league just folded. A guy I used to date turned me on to this a couple years ago and I played a season and faded away.

I am trying to draft my first beginers league team and I am a little overwhelmed. I understand that there is going to be a learning curve and I am going to try to learn it. It took my about 5 years to figure out Fantasy Baseball, but I did.

First question - it says that beginners don't do well, so how long does it take to win? If it takes hundreds of dollars, then I might pass.

Second question - are there any other women here? I am assuming people with monikers like 'llamanuts and boogerlips' are not of the female gender.

I think I will start reading the posts going back a couple of months. I have read a couple already and... I am still confused.

It won't take hundreds of dollars, but it will be a maddening learning curve, what with the cookie brigade.

The other women here are mostly aliases who are just looking to arouse the virgins who frequent this site.

There are many good threads on learning the basic in and outs of the game.

micki if you have specific questions ask away. There are a lot of guys on here that are very smart and also very helpful.

Beginners can do well if they begin by reading the forums first and ask questions. It won't take hundreds of dollars to become successful providing you read the forums and try to pick up pointers first. welcome to the site.

I recommend only having one team at a time. When that team finishes, draft a second. The temptation will be, after you have learned some of your mistakes or have new ideas, you will want to get right back in the draft center. Resist that temptation. I promise you that you can learn just as quickly (and spend a lot less money) by letting one team ride to the end before starting a new one.

jwelsh1023 is a prominent female user of the site, you might contact her to learn the ropes.

progressives are the best thing going on this site, open leagues blow.

For pitchers I judge by HR/9#, BB/9#, OAV#. I will sort by ERC# and must have a IP/9 over 5 for a SP.

For every hitter multiply 1.1 times their PA to get their usable PA. For pitchers 1.1 times IP will give you a rough idea but not 100% accurate.

In an Open League you will get usable AAA players with 200-400 PA availability. Mostly you get Long and Mop-up type AAA pitchers. Once in a while you'll get a good RP.

Thanks for the help - it is all Greek to me

I spent the night reading the posts, so I kind of understand, sort of (yeah I know girl lives in Vegas and she spends Saturday night reading how to play simulated baseball games - pretty sad huh?)

I think I will stick with what I know first - draft fantasy studs like HoJO, Foxy Ryan Sandberg, Canseco, Arod... and pitchers like Peavy/Schilling/Glavine.

I will take Boogerlips advice and take it one team at a time.

Question - why does everyone seem to hate this Bob Caruthers? That guy gets a LOT of negative pub!

BTW - my name is Michelle, but I was born in 1965 and my Dad really wanted a boy so he could name him after Mickey Mantle.
