best cheap hitters? Topic

I'm using 1992 Eric Wedge ($429k) as a spot starter / pinch hitter in an OL (Coors is home field). A third of the way through the season he's hitting .308/.438/.615 with 2 hr's and 9 rbi's for 26 at-bats.

I also just picked up 1988 Luis Medina ($385k) off the waiver wire and inserted him in the line up for 2 home games. The result? A homer in each game, 3 runs, 5 rbi's, .500 avg...

So you're telling me that Medina WON'T hit a homerun every game? Thanks for the clarification.

Perhaps you just pick your bench players at random, since they don't have a significant number of at bats. I still prefer 50 PAs from Medina, because that 1973 Rich Reese just doesn't seem to perform for me.

Enjoying this season with the 2007 Yadier Molina...

51 games in hitting .395, including 26-for-48 (.542) during current 12-game hit streak.

Is boogerlips turning into the new Big-Kahuna? Inquiring minds want to know.

As for cheap hitters - I like Wilson Delgado. He is around $249 thousand and does a great job (for a couple of at bats). i drafted him recently and sent him to the farm to sit and wait till game 120 or so.

Ditto. However I thought the author was inquiring more about regulars. For me I still like some of the old standbys: '92 Tom Daly and '75 Gary Carter. I like the 30X PA Quivlio Veras as a platoon at 2nd. And I have never used him, but I am intrgued by '95 Mickey Tettleton.

I'll try him out. I always get 87 Bill Bean as a defensive replacement, but he's batting .429/.444/.514 at the all-star break. Not bad for $400K...

What is your definition of cheap (price)? Are you looking at a minimum amount of PAs (ex: full time player or pinch hitter)? Regarding full time players, I've had decent success with the '92 Randy Milligan. 577 PA's, under $3M, walks a good amount, usually good for about 80 RC.

I want to know who the best overall players are at each and every dollar amount. Could somebody whip up a quick chart, please? I am particularly interested in $2,764,019 and $5,257,988, but I really need the whole list in order to compete. Thanks in advance.

i'm thinking pinch-hitters / occasional spot starter...100 ABs, give or take...
