First pick for 87 - Glavine or Cone Topic

I have the first pick in a progressive entering 1987...stuck on who to take, Tom Glavine or David Cone. Anyone have an experience using either in a progressive? Who would you take?

It depends, I hate to state the obvious but Glavine is better longer but Cone is better when he is better.

Cone is also better quicker(1988 to 1991), so if you think you'll be good quickly go with Cone.

Glavine 4
Cone 5 (+1 more as a reliever)

Cone's great seasons are also more compact and quicker(88 and 94-98).

Glavine's are later (91,97,98, 00)

Pretty much what everyone else said. Is this a single-season progressive? If so I'd lean towards Glavine... once you get into the 90s, just having a guy who can give you 200 non-awful innings every year is huge.

Trust me, I'm in a single-season progressive heading into 98 and I've spent mid-1st round picks on guys like Justin Thompson, Pedro Astacio, and Dustin Hermanson.

Seriously, I agree with John. I am looking like I am going to get the #1 pick in 1987 as well in a few months. My first thought was Glavine but I am trying to talk myself into Cone because I like to win now!

Either way, you can't go wrong.

Yeah, it is a single season progressive which started in 1985 using actual rosters. So, I started with the 1985 Montreal Expos. First 3 seasons draft order is based on how your team compared to the real-life standings of your team. My 86 Expos did quite well so I got the first pick overall. Basically, I have those players with Mark McGwire who I drafted last year. This is the last season where we will be using this draft order, after that...worst to first style. I was really thinking Glavine, but Cone's OAV got me wondering if Glavine really was the better sim player. I just don't have much experience with Glavine, but I know in the past y starters always seemed to get shelled. Thanks for the input!
