Situation:
You're the home team, it's the top of the 8th inning, the score is 1-0, home team leading.
First batter in top of the 8th triples, do you as the manager bring the "infield in" or leave them at normal depth?
(Your infield is above average)

Yes: I bring them in

No: Normal depth

Depends on: who's the batter and who's my pitcher.
If I have an advantage with a strikeout pitcher on the mound and a batter who isn't much of a contact hitter I play normal depth and hope for a K. If it's a pitcher who pitches to contact against a hitter who is tough to strikeout, I bring them in.

winner77, intentional walk then a double play still scores the tying run. Your decision is to protect the lead or not?

Point taken bheid408, the #1 hitter in the lineup tripled, #2 hitter up, contact guy. IN or OUT?

Is this a real game of baseball, or SIM? In real life, I'd bring 'em in. In SIM, I'd leave 'em back, more afraid of a big inning.

Normal depth

You are hoping for the strike out, pop out, line drive at someone.

Do not put the go ahead run on base with a walk.

Do not let the ball get past a brought in defense to put anotherrunner on base with no outs.

Being the home team with last at bats makes giving up the tieing run a shame, but letting the ball get past a drawn in defense a crime.

Yes: I bring them in

napolean, i figure I walk the guy to setup a possible double play. In my experience, pulling the INF in on WIS does not stop runners from scoring on ground balls, so I mine as well try for 2. If this was 'real life', i would pull them in and not walk the guy. My 2 cents.

normal with nobody out. probably bring them in with 1 out, maybe not if their bullpen stinks. it's an anti-percentage play that is overused IMO.
