My votes go to:

Blyleven (no explanation necessary)

Alomar (surprisingly comparable to Morgan)

Raines (how he didn't get in on the first ballot was a travesty- he was behind only Rickey as the greatest lead-off hitter in history).

Edgar Martinez: HOF numbers as a hitter.

Without the DH rule, they would have found a place to play him anyway.

As far as Alomar, the pros include his .300 career ba, 10 gold gloves, 12 time all star and 2 world series titles. His big con includes spitting in umpire John Hirschbeck's face on live TV. They'll probably make him sweat for about 5 or 6 years then vote him in. Sounds about right...

Alan Tramell

Roberto Alomar

Andre Dawson

Rik Albert Blyleven

Andre 'Hawk' Dawson

I don't think anyone will get in this year besides Dawson.
11/30/2009 11:33 PM
Alomar and Edgar.

Alomar will come close, but I don't think anyone gets enough votes this year.

Does anyone else feel this way??

It's not Edgar's fault he's a DH. Baseball (all of baseball) created this position and they are going to have to live with what it is. Don't knock a player because he didn't play the field. If he had to, he would of.

This guy has a lifetime OPS+ of 140. That's 40th OF ALL TIME. That's not a Fred McGriff 500 steroid homers, that's an adjusted ranking.

umm...Larkin is eligible. First ballot, easy.

Sure, he would have played the field, but he would have really plagued his team with his defense.

Players who hit .300/.400/.500 500 2B 300 HR 1200 R, RBI, BB
Stan Musial, Ted Williams, Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, and Edgar Martinez. That's it.

(and Manny Ramirez*)

How does Edgar not deserve the HoF at some point?
12/1/2009 4:11 AM
Ron Santo. Better than Brooks Robinson. Raines(DUH). Alomar. Dawson. And yes Martinez w/get it down the road
12/1/2009 8:25 AM
Dawson does NOT deserve to get in. Ever. Period.

Edgar Martinez deserves to go in first ballot but he almost definitely won't.

Alomar deserves to get in eventually and he probably will.

Blyleven might get in this year. Raines ought to.

Neither Larkin nor Trammell blows me away as a candidate...

A good year for candidates. There are no universal obvious choices. The vote may be so split that not many people make it.

Barry Larkin 1 MVP (1 other top 10 finish)

Bert Byleven 4 top 5 finishes in the Cy Young

ALomar 5 top 10 finishes in the MVP

Tim Raines 3 top 10 finishes in the MVP

Edgar Martinez 2 top 10 finishes in the MVP

Alan Trammel 3 top 10 finishes in the MVP

Andre Dawson 1 MVP award (3 other 10 ten finishes (with 2 2nd places))

None of these guys blow me away....Willie Stargell (who I kinda consider the middle level HOF has 6 top 10 MVPs finishes with one win)
