Dynasty Cup XIII Champ vs Dynasty Cup XIV Champ
10/23/2024 2:52 PM
Both Semifinal matches concluded at the same time. In the first series, a 5-5 tie between #9 FC Edinburgh Bullet Birds and #5 Club de Fútbol Deportivo Cotopaxi resumed in Quito, Ecuador and the 1st half perpetuated the deadlock. Evan Ashby and Weyland Watkins traded goals as the two teams went into halftime still knotted at 6-6. That all changed in the 2nd half when Cotopaxi put the series away during a five minute span that proved decisive. José Valdés first gave his side the lead with a little nutmeg on his marker and then slipping the ball past Edinburgh goalie Juaquine Saucedo in the 55th. A few minutes later, Maeyken Bastin scored to extend the lead to 8-6 and Watkins, who is running away with the Golden Toe, capped it off in the 60th with a diving header to give Cotopaxi the 4-1 win as they take the series 9-6 and advance to the Championship for the third time in their history.

In the other semis, all hell broke loose. #11 VB Hibernian was down three goals to #2 the crutchanators of soccer and had to go maximal in order to advance against the defending Champs...and maximal they did...at least for a half. After Miika Moilanen gave crutchanators a 5-1 aggregate lead in the 15th, the Hibs offense went berzerk thanks to American Tedrick Frame, who became a scoring machine. Between the 15th minute and halftime, Hibernian put six goals on the board, four of them by Frame, as the aggregate went from 1-5 to 7-5 in favor of the English club. A little shell-shocked, the break saved a clearly rattled crutchanators defense and they came out more composed in the 2nd. Heinz Hagelin started to right the ship for the Champs in the 50th and two more goals by crutchanators before the midway point swung the lead back to crutchanators 8-7. From that point, Hibs, in a bit of a state of shell shock of their own, didn't manage many offensive chances until the very end when Diaz Munguía did his own impersonation of Maradona and beat goalie Rueban Lazar to the corner post to make the aggregate 8-8 but when the referee blew the whistle, the crutchanators players started to celebrate as they survivied a wild 7-4 defeat on the road and won the series on the first tiebreaker of 4 away goals to 1.

The two results makes the Championship Round a match-up between the last two Cup winners and both the Bullet Birds and Hibernian will have to settle for the 3rd Place game.

Since the Championship has no tiebreakers and must be won outright, a coin flip was done to see who would host the first sudden death game in case of an aggregate tie. Here are the results.

Both games are scheduled, decent chance game 2 is played after my season flips. I don't normally pay attention to how long it takes, but we will be losing a key starter if the season is flipped. Luckily have a solid replacement option.

Good luck Crutchanators!

The first leg of the Championship was played this evening in the good old US of A in front of 42,625 fans as the crutchanators of soccer attempt to become the first team in FC Dynasty Cup history to win back to back titles. Standing in their way is the Cup XIII Champion Club de Fútbol Deportivo Cotopaxi, determined to not allow it to happen. However, the Ecuadorian side struggled on the road as crutchanators controlled the game from the beginning. Jaquawn Cervantes flicked a shot past Cotopaxi goalie Rose Luyten in the 11th minute to set the tone and the Champs never trailed. Miika Moilanen's header proved to be the game winner in the 27th when he received a perfect corner service to make the score 2-0.

Cotopaxi, outplayed throughout the game, did manage to cut the margin to 2-1 when defender Luciano Milito, forward due to a corner kick, scored his first goal of the tournament to stop the bleeding in the 35th but Sampo Jarvela scored a pair of goals a few minutes on either side of the halftime break to leave no doubt of the outcome. The 4-1 final score could have been worse if it were not for seven saves by Luyten and the Cotopaxi offense will need to be sharper as they fell for the offside trap four times, wiping out what otherwise could have been a couple of excellent scoring chances.

The Championship now shifts to Ecuador on Sunday where Cotopaxi will enjoy the home pitch advantage and must win by three to extend the series.

Good luck to Club de Fútbol Deportivo Cotopaxi in the final match, and great tournament run so far. Shall see if the Cotopaxi eruption occurs on their home field or if this COS team can manage to pull off another win (have been squeeking by so far).

The 3rd Place game was played overnight as two teams that had great tournaments tried to compose themselves after the disappointment of losing in the Semifinals. With the Bronze medal on the line, nearly 33,000 fans turned out to watch VB Hibernian take on FC Edinburgh Bullet Birds in England. The lingering effects of the semis were evident as neither team was able to score in the 1st half but the 2nd half proved to be a different story. Hibs opened the scoring in the 50th when Juaquine Saucedo made a save but gave up a rebound right in front of his net, allowing Lucas Quezada to volley in the loose change to make the score 1-0. From that point, the floodgates opened and VB Hibernian netted three more goals by the 72nd minute to take the 3rd Place honors with a 4-0 victory and put themselves into the history book. Edinburgh, as a club playing in their first Dynasty Cup, should be proud of their run.

The Championship Round has concluded and it was one for the ages. the crutchanators of soccer held a 4-1 aggregate lead going into the return match against Club de Fútbol Deportivo Cotopaxi as the two teams travelled to Quito, Ecuador for all the glory. crutchanators, trying to become the first team to ever win back-to-back Cup titles just had to play keep away and, for the most part, was successful in the opening half. The score was still 0-0 late in the 1st until a corner kick in the 44th minute resulted in a Gabe De Bruyn header that gave Cotopaxi the lead 1-0 and cut the crutchanators' aggregate down to 4-2.

With both teams giving maximum effort, the 2nd half between these two heavyweights proved to be possibly the most entertaining Championship game 2nd half in the history of the FC Dynasty Cup. Cotopaxi came out swinging, scoring two goals in consecutive minutes, first De Bruyn scored another one in the 57th and then Maeyken Bastin beat crutchanators goalie Rueban Lazar to the far corner in the 58th to tie the aggregate at 4-4. The Champs, who have been tested in every playoff round, responded to the pressure and regained the lead in the 64th. Dontarius Aspenlind worked his way through the Cotopaxi defense and unleashed a wicked shot that stranded goalie Rose Luyten to reclaim the lead for the crutchanators 5-4.

With the aggregate lead back in their hands, the crutchanators collapsed their defense and allowed the Ecuadorians to hold the ball. The strategy, risky since it allowed a ton of shots by the high-powered Cotopaxi offense, payed off as Cotopaxi held a huge shot advantage but still trailed. This all set the stage for possibly the most dramatic finish to a Cup Championship ever. With a three minutes to go in regular time and down a goal, Cotopaxi's Bastin hit a header that was good but Lazar was in position to make the save and give his team the hardware but he let the ball pass right through his hands and into the net to make the game score 4-1 and knot the aggregate at 5-5. A quick restart to the game allowed Cotopaxi to drive the ball down the pitch and with a minute to go, Bastin found himself in front of the net with a chance to win it...and the veteran Dutch forward did not disappoint as his perfect header down at the feet of Lazar bounced past the goal line to end a come-from-behind 5-1 win for Cotopaxi to take the Championship with an aggregate of 6-5 in a finals that might be the best one yet.

Club de Fútbol Deportivo Cotopaxi and indiansrck27 out of World 82 have have shown the heart of a Champion by taking the FC Dynasty Cup XV title. the crutchanators of soccer and brandon5135 were denied by a hair of becoming the first team to successfully defend their title and will have to settle for the Runner-up spot. The L'Orteil D'or award was won by Weiland Watkins going away with 17 goals. Now, without further ado, the hardware will now be distributed to their rightful owners.
