I'm a WIS veteran, but I can't seem to hit on a winning formula anymore. Time was that putting together a good offense with good batting average and contact and OBP with a few power hitters sprinkled in would produce. Pitching-wise, I've always gone for the low WHIP pitchers and like the OAV to be less than .230 whenever possible.
But nowadays, most of my teams finish right around .500 and rarely challenge for a division title. Am I not putting enough emphasis on defense. I do admit to having a few players with C fielding or range, but I try to keep them out of key positions like 2B, SS, 3B and CF.
I do like to use a lot of players from the 1960s, 70s and 80s, but it seems like they don't translate very well anymore in the sim. It seems like players from 2000 and beyond over-perform against them, even though that era is littered with Kyle Schwarber types who strike out a ton, but hit 30 homers and might bat .240.
What should I be placing more emphasis on and less emphasis on?
