Ok, so, I WAS thinking that some of these guys are actually not eligible for the HOF (Giles, in particular) and that proved correct when the voting noms came out tonight. Some are on here - Shipley, Harvey, but others are not. (Giles!)
These numbers are great to have, though! They do bring an interesting element; I am still of the opinion that Harvey, elite as he was in small doses, remains something of a strange HOF case because he never played a single full season, only eclipsing 400 AB's twice, and usually ending up in the 300 range. There are zero historical comps for a HOF player of that type, regardless of WAR by whatever formula we calculate it.
I'm all for Shipley as a HOF'er though, really think he was a complete player. Ditto Lofton, who I think deserves our highest level of support. Elite bat with good enough defense in LF (and superlative defensively at 1b when played there, though obviously that's not hard to do). I remain a fan of CARL Harvey, and would definitely vote for Roosevelt Curtis, who had a strong career with a couple busted seasons that seem to be due mostly to absentee ownership.
