My 1963 prog team was supposed to be a contender, but we got off to a rocky start (27-35) and found ourselves in 3rd place in a tough division, about 10 and 8 games back of the teams ahead of us. Since stumbling out of the gate, however, we've gone on a 33-10 tear and now sit at 60-45, in 2nd place, just one game back of the leader.
I was trying to figure out what changed, and a lot of it comes down to a single player: starting pitcher (and team ace) Ralph Terry. His stats when we were slumping:
W-L 6-8
101 IP
4.54 ERA
His stats since then:
W-L 11-1
97 IP
1.48 ERA
Believe It or Don't!
EDIT: Terry's now up to 16-1 since the slow start!
