The Gallant Hours . Story of Adm Halsey and the Battle of Guadalcanal The first time I saw it was when I was in the Army Hosp. and the brought a projector to the ward. Great flick.
That is a good one...Cagney is usually good in every movie.

Can't remember the last war movie I saw...maybe American Sniper, if you consider that a war movie.
Yeah, that is a good observation. There are a ton of movies using war as a backdrop but really aren't war movies. Is Apocalypse Now a war movie or just a drama centered around the Vietnam War?

Another nomination from me is 300. Very entertaining.
Believe it or not, I've never seen Apocalypse Now. Seen parts of it, but never the whole thing. As you might guess, I'm not a big fan of war movies. from the parts of Apocalypse Now I've seen, I'd probably consider it a war movie, but like I said, I haven't seen the whole thing. Never saw 300 either.

why were you in the army hospital ?..if you dont mind telling.
Non combat injury. Caught my thumb in firing mechanism on the range and it became infected. No biggie. Mostly embarrassing
I appreciate your service.

I find war movies pretty exhausting and tend to stay away from them. The Bridge on the River Kwai and Apocalypse Now are undoubtedly great films, though.

And Tropic Thunder is a great satire of war movies (well, more a satire of self-important Hollywood actors trying to make a war movie). Casting Tom Cruise was a brilliant move; I didn't even realize it was him until the end credits rolled.
