Weird thing I found out today about Big Jeff Pfeffer......there were two Jeff Pfeffer's. The one that played from 1905-1911 and then his younger brother Jeff Pfeffer who pitched from 1911-1924. The weird thing about them...neither of them were named Jeff. The older brother was Francis and the younger brother was named Edward. How odd!

managed five runs in the first inning without a hit thanks to six walks, an error and a fielder's choice!

I ended up a few plate appearances short at catcher in a theme league (no waiver wire/AAA) so I've occasionally been playing one of my other field players out of position. I started doing it with my worst pitcher, figuring it would be a disaster and I'd end up losing badly, but then this happened...

Bill Lee when pitching to Jose Iglesias as emergency catcher: 3-0, 3.57 ERA; Spaceman pitching to actual catchers: 0-2, 10.32 ERA

Iglesias hasn't been horrible, with two passed balls and an error in those three games, and he even threw out someone trying to steal!

I'm pretty sure I posted about The Curious Case of the Pfraternal Pfeffers earlier in this thread. One other weird pfact: regular Jeff was bigger than Big Jeff. Two inches taller and thirty pounds heavier, according to b-r.com.
Yeah but we didn't believe you. We believe Taint.

After a 6-year hiatus, I signed back up (during quarantine like lots of others)... my first 3 teams to complete their regular seasons had Runs Scored Against as follows:

Tango & Norm Cash - 868 https://www.whatifsports.com/mlb-l/view.asp?lid=127548
Return to Mediocrity - 768 https://www.whatifsports.com/mlb-l/view.asp?lid=127088
2010-19 Bang the Can Slowly - 668 https://www.whatifsports.com/mlb-l/view.asp?lid=127815

My 4th team gave up over 2,000 runs in a gimmick league, so the pattern died, but still...Believe it or Don't.

Welcome back...

Good to see vets like ARomano and SFord back and playing. Scott has a Top 25 team. Why am I not surprised. He has always been very creative finding new ways to win...

My Carpetbaggers OL team has had to beat a 119 win team, then a 116 win team to reach the finals...

One of the reasons that team is still alive is this guy. I think I got my money's worth??

Hey Doc, I just got done using 1987 Johnny Ray in a 90M theme. Almost identical PA and salary to the 1988 version. Mine didn't do quite as well as yours.

Your results may vary......mine played in the Metrodome, but put up similar numbers on the road. The dude hit .402 vs righties.

Even though their stats and cost are similar, there's a difference or 20RC on their performance history. I'd pick 1988 Everytime based on that alone.
6/30/2020 12:42 PM
You're right, the RC27 difference is pretty big, 5.48 for '88 Ray vs. 4.25 for '87. In my defense, I only had access to '87 for this theme (Random Captain -- my man Tom Prince wasn't teammates with Ray in '88).

'88, '84 and '82 are all worth using.

With just two games left, Doug Fister started at 88% to give himself one last start and picked up his 20th win. Become the last of my 4 starters to win 20. Idk how difficult it is to do, but its the first time I’ve accomplished this in my history of this game. As the theme for this OL, I only selected SP’s with a salary under $7m. Pretty happy with this bunch!
