CLASS Draft for Dummies (Comments & Questions) Topic

I'm much more excited about my underclassmen than my upperclassmen. Lots can change from here, but elite/very good from the 1st 2 rounds is going to trump very good/very good because of the way the sim (in all sports) seems to operate. Much larger spread from beginning of rd 1 to end of rd 1 vs beginning of rd 2 and end of rd 2. Obviously how teams fill out from here is going to matter, but it's definitely an advantage picking early in rd 1.

Fun fact: 90-91 Alvin Robertson is one of 28 seasons in the sim with 7+ OReb% and 20+ Ast%.

I feel like it's an advantage for year 1 to pick early but a disadvantage later on. I think I would've rather had pick 24 in 1st round and the 1st pick of Freshman and then built my team to be dominant in years 3-4+ and angled for high draft picks in loaded 1st and 2nd drafts.

Getting the last 4 years of Ray Allen as a Fr. was what I hoping for when I joined the theme. Don’t know if it will bring winning, but he was a favorite of mine for a long time.

If you draft someone as a freshman but they only have two remaining seasons, you'd get 1 grad transfer for those remaining two seasons right?

I kept questioning some of the picks, and instead of re-reading the rules more closely, I just keep drafting with a backwards interpretation of the class-structure. Hopefully, no harm done. Except that I was actually looking forward to four seasons of Ewing.

Each of the last two seasons would be a separate 1 year grad transfer is how it was explained to me.

REPICK RULING:

hoopsrus needs to KEEP Kevin McHale -

It is a long held belief or a standard in What If Sports Drafts,
that once a pick is submitted, that the owner is committed to that pick
(Similar to removing your hand from a chess piece.)

IF an owner sent out a pick, and then changed it BEFORE the draft resumed -
then I really wouldn't have a problem with THAT.
(and would hope that others would be forgiving on the change as well -
As the Commissioner, I would allow THAT
(and if I were the next owner UP, then I would be OK with a re-pick as well)

In this particular situation, several picks occurred AFTER the pick in question -
that would be very difficult, and time consuming to 're-spool' - or go back, etc. etc.

And then you run into who would have selected the original player IF he were available, etc etc.

AND - allowing an owner to go BACKWARDS through submitted drafts to make a change
Creates a NASTY PRECEDENT going forward.

I would like to accommodate hoopsrus here, but think that the damage is done and
the draft has moved too far past his point of question.

McHale will stay with the franchise for THREE seasons -
Before McHale's 4th season -(he was selected as a Freshman)
hoopsrus will select a GRAD TRANSFER in the 4th round of that particular draft
as the McHale replacement

For draft, the order should be A-B-B-B. With so many studs being available every year I think you have to stack it.

Also, will it be randomized every offseason? So someone could get top picks in back to back years?
4/11/2020 10:58 PM
To be honest I am not a fan of a completely random draft every year. I am worried about what was mentioned above and someone getting the #1 pick 2 seasons in a row or perhaps even worse the last pick 2 seasons in a row. It would feel like if you had a bad season you get nothing for it, no "silver lining", or more importantly no incentive to bring your team back the next season.

I would suggest a lottery where everyone has a chance at the number 1 pick but the worse records have the better chance of getting it. I would also have a minimum win requirement to have the best odds.
