This is so hard to answer because there are so many different factors. How many players in within 500 miles? How many resources do you have (1 scholarship or 6)? Are the public camps worth it based off of cost per recruit? The way I recruit at d3 cal tech is much different than d3 yeshiva in New York. I use private camps when I can (you don't mention that you do) but sometimes they aren't worth it.
I use private camps for every method. I referred to them as camps in the original post, I'll edit to make it more clear I meant private camps.

I agree about the so many factors thing, that's why I factored in three different situations and what I do.

Edit: I realize now that you may not have been responding to me, rather to the guy who posted above.

I scout individually. I tend to only contact double the amount of players (or less) that I end up signing.

Shoe’s method at DII, DIII is a must read. At DI, you have more scouting money than needed.

The one thing about shoe3's post that is very good is the order for scouting Internationals and Canada recruits.

You need to decide if you want to recruit Internationals.. And you need to do them first.

You also need to decide if level 3 is good enough for them or if you want level 4 for all. I am fine with Level 3.. It is close enough for me.

I do things slightly differently.

I do internationals/Canada and top 100. Then I pick some FSS states. And I always do a private camp as it gives you 2 levels for $60. If I am in Div-2 I also do the closest public camp. I skip the public camp at Div-1.

Once the camps have finished, I then schedule Assistant searches starting at 200 miles and working my way out.

But I don't currently limit it to total$/200.. Maybe I should give that a try.
