Well, if we hadn't decided a military response was the correct action following 9/11, and had done nothing instead, ISIS wouldn't exist.  Al Q'aida is bigger now than it was then, but that might have happened anyway.  So I guess we can just blame ISIS on our military activities in the Middle East.

So yeah, doing nothing would have been better.  Unambiguously so.

You know what, **** it. I'll let dahs speak for himself.

dahs, were you talking about Iraq or Afghanistan here?
Or both?

Jesus ******* christ.

If someone says we went to war in the middle east to as a response to 9/11, is it reasonable to think that they could be referring Iraq?

Especially if the discussion is primarily centered on ISIS?

If someone says we went to war in the middle east to as a response to 9/11, is it reasonable to think that they would not be including Afghanistan?

Especially if the war in Afghanistan was started almost immediately after and in direct response to 9/11?

How stupid are you?

Let's break it down since dahs was smart enough to recognize he made a stupid statement(then left BL to defend it).

"our military activities" = would seem to imply military actions
"in the Middle East" = would seem to imply a particular region

I'm not sure why BL thinks "Middle East" means "Iraq".    Can anyone confirm that he saw the map tec so graciously supplied this morning?

If dahs left BL to defend his statement, should he really be characterized as "smart"?
2/1/2016 12:50 PM
Relatively speaking, yes.

At this point, the consensus is that BL doesn't know what happened after 9/11 nor does he know how to read a map.    We've pretty much forgotten that dahs said the response to terrorist attacks on US soil should be met with, uh, nothing.

2/1/2016 12:55 PM
And it's not the first time that dahs implied that there's nothing the US can do when radical Islamists commit terrorist acts.   Because any response will make them hate America even more.

I guess I was referring to both Iraq and Afghanistan.  All military action in the region provoked by the 9/11 attacks.

It's worth pointing out here that while the largest chunk of ISIS territory is located in Iraq, the largest chunk of their leadership structure is made up of former Al Q'aida leaders.  So both wars played a substantial role.

Do you think, if bin Laden is still alive, that ISIS takes the prominent terrorist organization role from Al-Queda?

This is the point where BL jumps in and tells you "No, you weren't also referring to Afghanistan, you were only referring to Iraq".

BL . . . you're up.

And, do you still think that the correct reaction to 9/11 would be to do nothing?

He says he was referring to both, that's fine.
LOL.

Good job.

Hard to say. The west had these terrorist organizations (all of them) on their heels, playing defense rather than being on the offensive. It was the troop withdrawal around the same time as Bin Laden's death (2011) that really opened things up for the land grab. I think the land grab would have happened whether Bin Laden was alive or not but I'm speculating. All these organizations are allied so which one does what doesn't really matter imo.
