The selection committee must have heard you bradshaw. If you are going to get to the final four you are going to have to go through Norm, GL.

If, by the grace of God, I am able to get to the Sweet 16 and play Norm, it would be the 3rd straight season that we've met in the NT. Weird.

Some interesting matchups. Feels good to be back in NT.

Some very odd decisions made by this year's selection committee. I'm personally a little miffed that Beloit gets a #2 seed despite being #1 RPI for virtually the entire season. I can live with that, but my conference mates at St. Norbert College really got screwed. Like most I assumed that RPI cutoff for inclusion in the NT would be somewhere around 47 or 48. St. Norbs missed out with a 45 RPI, including a respectable 6-4 record down the stretch. There were about 5 or 6 teams that got in ahead of St. Norbs without winning their CT. So what gives?

Here's another that doesn't make sense, and though it's a relatively meaningless gripe, it's indicative of the lunacy of this season's selection committee:

Lasell:
19-9 overall
11-5 in conference (NAC)
9 RPI
unranked
6-4 last 10
11-5 road
lost CT semis
lost to MMA head-to-head
4-seed

MMA:
23-6 overall
13-3 in conference (NAC)
7 RPI
unranked
7-3 last 10
10-4 road
lost CT final
beat Lasell head-to-head
5-seed

I know it doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, but it demonstrates a major flaw in logic, for a game that was probably created by people that knew a thing or two about logic.

Were to strong of a conf so they wanna hold us back from making a run on the upstate rpi like we always do
2/26/2010 1:22 PM
Yeah, maybe, but you have to admit that "L" comes before "M" in the alphabet. Get your logical priorities straight Bradshaw!

The power conferences really seem to take it on the chin with seedings and at-large bids. At a glance St. Norbs looks like they should be in to me..45 RPI, 19-9 record is better than I expected, 12-4 in road games, and a nice win in the CT before losing to #1 RPI. Honestly I'm not sure that RP with our 38 RPI, 16-11 record deserves a bid over St. Norbs, but I've given up on figuring out the madness.

For what its worth, the same thing happened to RP 2 seasons ago, 40-45 RPI, 16-12 overall but went 10-6 and won our division in the Upstate, had lots of quality wins including at least 4 against top-10 RPI.

Personally I think W-L is somehow getting more weight than it should. At this point I just expect power conference teams to get shafted.

Final Four Predictions:

Midwest:
McMurry over someone
Not picking the top half of the region, which features 3 of the 4 most overrated teams this year (Lasell is at the head of this list, with MBBC and Carroll as well). It will be a war of attrition.

East:
Rochester over George Fox
Rochester is as good a 7-seed as there is, and I like them to take down Hopkins in the 2nd round, giving all the JHU fans a chance to watch more lacrosse. Top half features another team that I'm down on (even though they beat me) as the top seed. George Fox is reloaded from its title run a few seasons back, and they have the horses to go to the Final 4... but they fall just short in heart-breaking fashion.

South (aka Bracket of Death):
Thomas over Anderson
Along with Beloit, these are the 3 best teams in the country IMO, and only one will be in the Final 4... attaboy, Nyles Grande. I have no doubt it will be one of these 3, but it depends on the matchup. I think Thomas would beat Beloit, but Anderson matches up well with Thomas... as for Beloit-Anderson, well that might end up being the game of the tournament. No doubt this is where CBS will send their top broadcast crew.

West:
MMA over Hobart
MMA might go down in the 1st round--tough matchup with Lake Forest--but if they can get by, I see them doing damage. They were as consistent as any team in the country all year, and there's no reason to think it won't continue to be that way. Amherst is terrific up front as always, but MMA actually matches up well with them. On the bottom, juice's team finished with a flourish, and will ride that momentum to the Elite 8, until Marlon Zechman misses a dunk to win it at the end of regulation--he tried to do an unnecessary windmill--while at the same time, the coach of a small, ghetto school in suburban Boston is sticking pins in a voodoo doll that bears a striking resemblance to the afore-mentioned Zechman.

Title Game:
Thomas over Rochester
I'm saying it right now: whoever survives the South is your Season 42 Wooden D3 Champion. Thomas is so good on paper I'm tempted to call shenanigans on their coach... like maybe he bribed his recruits with crumpled up dollar bills from between the cushions of his couch. However, the games aren't played on paper.

The South is murder run, man oh man bracket is toughhhhhhhhhhh.
2/26/2010 3:06 PM
Nice, bradshaw-- i actually laughed out loud at the Zechman stuff.
2/26/2010 9:18 PM
44% of the teams remaining in the post season are from the Big4
2/27/2010 4:32 PM
Nice percentage
2/27/2010 9:31 PM
I'd say that percentage is likely to go up as the tournies continue.
