Can we call Bluffton a dynasty yet? Consistent 130 RPI's are hard to do my friends.

I'm not sure you can call a team a dynasty when Blank goes on the record 38 times a year talking about how much he hates the game, Bluffton, and how he is trying to set basketball to the stone age with 28-26 final scores night in and night out.

I try to schedule a very tough NC schedule every year - mainly because my conference has stunk it up since I have been there. Since playing this game, I have a record of 344 -107 at W CONN ST. Only 40 of those have been in conference play in 15 seasons. That means I have 60+ losses in the NT and NC schedule. I have had pretty solid RPI's since I have been playing, but a lot has to do with scheduling pretty tough opponents.
In another world, there are 12 human coaches and no one goes through the season undefeated - a highly competitive league. In that world, I do schedule a lot easier b/c I know my SOS and RPI will get better when conference play hits.
I think it depends on your conference more than anything.

It varies from coach to coach based on preference... My SOS the last 3 years has been something like 5, 2 and now 4 this year. I would rather play opponents i know are going to be top 30 than play teams I'm hoping will be somewhere in the 100's. Because a couple times you will get burned, and one of those supposed 100ish teams turns out to be a 345 RPI team.

I think I'm on the same part of the learning curve as killbatman, and I'm beginning to think the ideal non-con schedule is 10 teams whose RPI you project to be about 50-75 slots lower than you project your own. Assuming you can project such a thing, which I can't...

Yea...I've started thinking that 2 top 10 caliber opponents, 2 more 30ish RPI opponents, and 2 more bubble teams are a good 6 as a base, and then 4 who hopefully will post RPIs in the mid 100s to round it out is a good 10. Of course...picking that is tough. Tougher because I typically just accept whoever challenges me but...ya.

To me, non-con scheduling is about giving yourself a chance to win. I look at it just as much from a matchup PoV, as I do RPI. I prefer to have 10 games against teams that will post better than a 100 RPI. Maybe toss in a few "rivalry" games with some WIS friends, who might have sub-100 RPI teams. But never more than 3.
Even if I'm in a rebuilding year, I keep this same philosophy. But I factor in the type of team that I'm playing and whether or not I think I have a legit chance at beating them. There are certain "types" of teams I prefer to play and some that I avoid. (read: superclass) You can really help boost your own RPI by knowing what kind of team you're successful against and taking advantage of your team's ability.

Sophomore superclasses are the best opponents I find...typically they will improve as the season goes on, and usually finish with an RPI around 100...

anyone feeling like any bold predictions now that the postseason is nearing?

Sure, Chicago is now safely in the field after several weeks of sitting on the borderline (though probably the right side of the border).
We will now be going for our 8th sweet 16 in 9 seasons (or is it 7 out of 8, can't remember exactly) Good luck during the rest of the CTs everyone.

Cabrini is receiving votes and has JJ's Arcadia team tonight, in the CT. That means we lose. That's how it works in the PAC!
