1915 Boston Braves
In Round 1, the Braves team one year removed (1916) finished 24th out of 24. We have a lot of the same players.
In Round 1, the Braves team two years removed (1917) was the number one overall draft pick and finished number one overall with 107 wins. Of course, the two best pitchers and arguably the best hitter on that roster were not on the Braves team in 1915. Funny thing is, schwarze did not even bother to roster the hitter I refer to and still ran away with the top prize.
OK - you have me stumped. Which hitter did I forget to roster?
That would be Jack "Chief" Meyers.
Baseball reference does not use certain nicknames that WIS uses.
Meyers was for quite a long time considered the best baseball player to come out of Riverside, CA, the city I've lived in the past ~25 years. He was in the inaugural class of the city's sport hall of fame.
Some kid born in 1964 here surpassed Meyers' fame, primarily by hitting the most home runs in a season and a career.
Still, if you ask the locals to name the best athlete to come out of these parts, they'll tell you it was Cheryl Miller.
