This is shaping up to be one heck of a NT. The results of the first round support my guess that a high seed will win the tournament this season.

And: McMurry is going down!

off topic . . . . . .

hey guys, have a wooden thread going in the main forum. some of you have already chimed in and we've already gotten five teams in Wooden reserved for next season through it. So thanks.

anyone else care to comment, feel free! The more it stays towards the top of the list, the better chance we have of getting more new coaches.

Interesting how this is setting up for Superior - we have the opportunity to face the teams that knocked us out of the last two NTs. GL tonight, goose.

The regional semis in the West are as loaded as any I've ever seen. 5 combined titles, and 3 of the top 4 programs on the dynasty list (after this year, when Lasell will move up past WCSU, Calvin, and NCWC). If NCWC (with its 2 titles, and position on the dynasty list) had beaten St. Lawrence, it would be about the best regional ever.

I'm glad Beloit is not in that West region! We've got the last undefeated team in Wooden DIII tonight.

There are a ton of storylines heading into the Sweet 16:

West - MBBC and SUNYM are far and away the top 2 programs in the country, and they are on a collision course. Player of the year Randy Hackler (best player in school history) leads a star-powered team against SUNYM's best team since its title run a few years back. Standing in their way, my Lasell team that is going to be a legitimate title contender next year, but is kind of an upstart this year, and the lone remaining team from the country's best conference. The Pick: SUNYM over MBBC

South - Obviously the biggest storyline--probably in the whole tourney--is the triumphant return of camrun and Anderson to the national spotlight. They face one of the country's best programs in Calvin. The other matchup has the nation's top RPI team and another of the top dynasties in the land (Johns Hopkins), a team that is always ridiculously good on paper but had mostly underachieved until recently, against a quality opponent (Lake Forest) from a 'Gangbang' Conference. The Pick: Anderson over Johns Hopkins

East - A great team and high quality program that never gets any national attention (St. Mary's), takes on the 2nd-longest-tenured coach in Wooden D3, ennam_iv. The other semi features the only undefeated team in the country (Cal. Santa Cruz) against one of the best and most respected programs in the country, Beloit. The Pick: St. Mary's over Beloit

Midwest - Monmouth has been a fixture in the 2nd weekend of the NT the last few years, and has reached elite status nationally. This year they feature a manchild C named Ricardo Torres who eats human hearts for sustenance. They take on an upstart of sorts in Wesley... but a dynasty-in-the-making for sure, making 4 NTs in coachferrier's 5 seasons. The other matchup will be a full-throttle, 94-foot track meet, between 2 press/break teams, one of whom has made The Leap in recent years (Finlandia), and the other is just scratching the surface with its 2nd straight Sweet 16 (and 3rd straight NT), in only the 4th year of coach treyomo's tenure. The Pick: Monmouth over Finlandia

Thanks bradshaw. I'm taking that pick to the bank. IF we get by Wesley, I couldn't take losing in the regional final for a 3rd straight year. Especially if it's a 3rd consecutive one point loss.
11/20/2009 2:13 PM
God, I hate losing like that... committing double the fouls and shooting only 4 FTs vs. a similar press team. GG, goose.
11/21/2009 3:02 AM
tough loss, trey--and not the way it should've gone down, in my opinion.

The Elite 8 has 3 from the MIAA and 2 from the Midwest, a very impressive showing from those conferences. And without suffering a game-tying three pointer at the buzzer (and a similar game winning shot in OT), Lake Forest would have made the mix to add yet another Midwest team.

GL to all the remaining teams. Should be fun.

I don't know how many more upsets Calvin has in them but we'll be big underdogs the rest of the way no matter who we play. How long can the "little zone team that could" hang with all the athletic pressing teams?

Editted: for spelling error

Good luck to the remaining teams... my guys were in the deep end of the pool and couldn't stay afloat.

Kinda cool game tonight between MBB and SUNY-M. They're the two clear-cut top teams on the dynasty list. With there only being a margin of 4pts between them, not only is this a matchup for a spot in the FF, its probably a matchup for the #1 ranking in this thread.
