i dont think its as bad as we think.

i dont think the non-big4 conferences are much different than they were 10 seasons ago (taking out the FREEHD teams). a couple top coaches have moved (oj, kb, bri....).

But this rivalry creates some excitement in the world. Hopefully what it causes is "other" conferences to try harder, maybe recruit new coaches. the E8, Minnesota, and North Coast have all been on the rise. They're lite on coaches, but i'll look into doing some recruiting for the world.

Having four top conferences really puts the pressure on us. There will be more teams deserving of an NT bid, but due to competition not making it. The other conferences will all have an auto bid. We might be looking at the cut-off for an at large bid dropping to around a 40 RPI. Its usually around 50. All in all, i think its somewhat bad for the world, but not as bad as some of you are making it out to be....

anyway, i'll get on the recruiting trail. what we need is more coaches, regardless of what conference they fall into...

and its a numbers thing. Is it any better to have 4 full conferences and 20 empty ones, than to have 24 conferences with two teams in each??

after further thought, i think that this "conference thing" is good for the world. what we need to do is get it more known around HD how fun this world is. I would say there's about 50-60 regular contributors in this world.... I say each one of us tries to recruit a new coach. If one of ever six succeeds, then we have 10 new coaches next season....

i suspect it would be best to have 8 half-full conferences than 4 full ones... then it would be fun for noobs as well as us (this is wrono), and we might get more folks to stick around long-term.

I don't think the top conferences should disband... I'm not sure how the conversation has turned in that direction. I never meant anything like that. I was just saying that in the future, let's not attempt to fill vacancies in the power conferences by recruiting coaches from within Wooden D3. For those of you with multiple teams and usernames, you should be recruiting from other worlds.

Obviously the best thing for the world, and for whatif in general, is to recruit from outside the website in general. That's how the NAC was built--almost entirely--and not only does it add depth to the world as a whole, but conferences are more fun if everyone knows each other (like a good roto league). As I said, it's a tough sell. It's a pretty big time suck, and some people don't have the time or want to waste it.

I think I saw HD advertised recently on Fox College Sports (channel 617 on your DirecTV dial)... I thought that was a coup.

It would great to fill the MIAC after breum , we all moved up to fill a d2 conference, and only a few of us came back with new IDs. We just haven't had much luck with people staying.

i wasn't by any means saying we should disband the power conferences, just that it's possible that wooden world would be better off with 8 good conferences than 4 super-conferences.

ideally we'd get several more going, or raise some of the mid-levels, through out-of-world recruitment-- as polo and bradshaw have suggested.

Yeah, there's a couple confs that aren't far away, just need 2-4 more human coaches: the E8, MIAC, Little East, and Penn just to name 4.

Bradshaw the Greek's pick for NT champion:

Vassar

Yeah, it's the obvious pick, but they are scary-good.

I like SUNY Maritime, with Chicago as a darkhorse pick.

The king repeats Mcmurry

Based on Amherst's (mostly unpleasant) non-conf experiences against some of the contenders, I'd say I'm pretty much required to pick Wisconsin-Superior to win it all. :)

Why do you say this. i just ran through the top 10 RPI teams. To me, looks like SUNY-M and McMurray are the two scary-good teams.. . . . vassar falls in a clump with MBB, Chicago, and Lake Forrest. They're good, but i dont see that they stand from the pack.
