wow... first guess... someone was building a team for a 2015 league and inadvertently entered them in an OL

And not uncalled for, either.  Alvarez had only one at-bat, but he left a man stranded at third with the team down by a run.  Hughes faced two batters in the bottom of the 9th, drilling the first and letting the second bat him in for the game-winning run. I have to say, I approve of this George Steinbrenner-style managing -- impetuous and reproachful!

George Steinbrenner was never a manager. A meddler yes, not a manager. 

Yes, I wondered about the wording as I wrote it (thought of writing "ownership" instead of "managing").  Still, it's George Steinbrenner-style to release players for a bad at-bat, or inning on the mound.  I recall George ordering a player released (or demoted to the minors?) for making an error in a game.

10 games into the season and down to a $70M team salary!

I wonder if he realizes his team salary is going down.

I'll reiterate what I guessed above...someone built a 2015 team for a theme league, and inadvertently entered it into an OL.  He's scrambling to make his team competitive.  Won't work, but better (I guess) than playing out the string with a team that you know can't compete...

Eventually I'll ask him what's up -- maybe after the transaction deadline.  I don't want to be like those anthropologists in the field who mess up their research by inserting themselves into the action.

Maybe it's just a new idea for a crazy theme: Draft an $80m team, and you have to replace the whole team on the waiver wire within the first week. No trades!

I've had a theme like that in mind for a while:

Everyone drafts the 1962 Mets to start.  Salary cap is $90 or 100M.  Once we have a schedule we all go apey adding and dropping players, and in the forums we get the owners who play only Open Leagues moaning about the dearth of quality on the WW.  

Truthfully, the most enjoyable aspect of the theme would be the dearth moaning.

agreed would certainly join that theme and put a open team in at the same time just  so i could monitor the dearth moaning lol
