Some interesting stats from my teams, so far...
1908 Christy Mathewson (1916 Giants) gives up 12 hits and 11 runs in 3.1 innings in a 15-7 loss to 1919 Giants. Hopefully, that will be his worst outing of the year, else it will be a long season.
My 1961 Dodgers won 15-2 and have now scored 43 runs in 4 games (3-1) despite Frank Howard having a slash of .105/.150/.263. The 12 NL teams are averaging 5.7 runs/game. The 12 AL teams are averaging 4.3 runs per game.
My Indians lost 10-1 (now 1-3) and have allowed a league high 11 HRs in 4 games. I knew this pitching staff would allow HRs, but they are all low-whip pitchers (team whip 0.92 in real life). Sadly, their 1.66 team whip in the sim is in the bottom half of the league. High whip + high HR frequency = 2nd worst pitching in league.
My 1915 Red Sox dropped another game (1-3). My nine regular batters, in order of batting average are '23 Speaker (.500), '20 Hooper (.350), '20 E.Scott (.300), '12. Speaker (.286), '12 Gardner (.250), '09 Carrigan (.231), '11 Gardner (.231), '23 Ruth (.231) and '21 Ruth (.154). Yes - my $52 million dollars of Babe Ruths are my two worst batters (incl. ties) on the team and have hit zero HRs!
My offensively-challenged '63 White Sox finally won a game (won 2-1). We are last in the league with a .230 batting average and have scored only 12 runs in 4 games. The starting pitching has been fine... '64 Horlen, '67 Horlen and '63 Peters have combined to throw 22 IPs, allowing just 6 runs, 5 earned (2.05 ERA). The bullpen has thrown 10 combined IPs and have allowed 11 runs, 9 earned (8.10 ERA). Has anybody ever had success with Hoyt Wilhelm or Eddie Fisher? On the plus side, the entire pitching staff has 30 Ks to just 4 walks.
My Tigers team has an odd pitching build. I am a bit light on RPs but have six SPs with 200+ IPs, so I went with three tandems so the bullpen won't be needed until the 8th inning or later. In four games, my bullpen has thrown only 1.1 IPs (3 appearances). My '11 Verlander / '17 Scherzer tandem is 2-0, but Verlander has a 1.74 ERA while Scherzer has an 8.53 ERA.
My 1913 Phillies have scored only 7 total runs in 4 games, yet we are 2-2 thanks to wins of 3-2 and 1-0. We did lose a game 4-3 due to a 2-run 9th or we could be 3-1. Six of my 9 starting batters are hitting .214 or lower.
My 1922 Senators improve to 3-1 with all three wins coming in Walter Johnson starts. In fact, Johnson has combined to pitch 22.2 IPs w/8 ERs (3.18 ERA). The rest of the staff has 13.1 IPs, 16 ERs, 10.80 ERA. I expect this trend to continue.
