Did someone say defense? Here's something to mull over. I just had a team of mine give up 154 points in a game--to a team with a losing record that was averaging 112 PPG. My starting five has defensive ratings as follows: Lebron-90, Shaq-80, Rodman-90, Kidd-80, Paul-70. WTF? Does defense mean ANYTHING in this game??
Sorry.

WIS will tell you that in a "small sample size" - which 1 game certainly is, anything can happen. That is because they have far, far too much variable written into their program, and refuse to give us the 45 seconds it would take to fix it.

People like to pretend that random stuff doesn't happen in real life. The 72 win Bulls lost to a trade depleted Heat team with only 8 available players because Rex Chapman went off for 39 points on 70% shooting against the best defense in the NBA. These things happen

while I don't disagree, robb, there is a key difference here:  The outcome IRL determines stats.  In this sim, the stats are supposed to determine the outcome.

As long as we're complaining about the sim , here's another issue that bugs me. The variation you get between playing up tempo, half court, and slow down offense seems way beyond reality at times. With some teams it often seems that if you dare to play half court, you shoot 45% or less, but if you play up tempo you get 25 turnovers. And god forbid you play slow down--you shoot 40%. Shouldn't there be more middle ground?
And not to complain about semantics, but why not? ;-) From what I've seen in the NBA, teams that play "up tempo" generally rush down the court and often take bad shots. Teams that play half court or slower work for a good shot. Does the sim have it backwards with the shooting percentages?

no, because defenses also have time to recover.  Those 80s Lakers did okay.
