CVAC-Heartland Challenge Season 72 Topic

St. Edwards 65, Belmont Abbey 46: Surely crashdive's strong 6-1 team would show up for this one, right? After all, the pride of the CVAC was on the line. Unfortunately, the game was held in Austin, and  the Crusaders drank heavily on 6th St. the night before the game. Coach crashdrive didn't even have time to gameplan, as he had to track down his hard-partying players all over town the next morning. Douglas Atherton was found that morning passed out at the Yellow Rose strip club, and responded the next day with a rousing 0 point effort in 12 minutes. Andrew Fletcher, Belmont Abbey's 6-5 center, overdosed on Torchy's Tacos, and stumbled into the locker room feeling very flatuelent. James Ray woke up tied to a bedpost, offered as a sacrifice to the sun god by a group of dreadlocked hippies. Dwayne Hankerson was found swimming nude in the greenbelt. Apparently the hallucenogenics didn't wear off before tip-off. The Crusaders shot a rousing 30% from the field, basically crapping their pants, literally and figuratively. Belmont Abbey's leading scorer had a whopping 7 points. Woohoo. Go CVAC.

I lived in austin for 7 years, and my wife graduated from St. Eds - so I thought I'd have a little fun with that one.

pure awesomeness. I need to bring back summaries like this to Yarnell.

Longwood 87, Incarnate Word 64: This was competitive for a half, but bbunch's squad could not be stopped in a 53 point second stanza. Five player hit double digits for Longwood (only William Haley was denied amongst the starters), as they shot 60% as a team. Eric McCrudden was player of the game, leading all scorers with 17. Incarnate Word's coach commented in the pre-season that his players didn't defend well enough and now he's got proof. Longwood looks tough and they have only two seniors on the roster.

Pfeiffer 51, Drury 50: Can't get more evenly matched than this game. Both teams made 18 of 42 shots. Both teams made 11 free throws. Pfeiffer made one more shot from three than Drury. Pfeiffer's Robert Jenkins will start having dunk practice, as he missed a jam with 10 seconds left that would've pushed Pfeiffer's lead to 3. The miss gave Drury hope and the ball with 8 seconds left. Jenkins redeems himself with a block of a Drury shot with 4 ticks left and Pfeiffer hangs on for the one point win.

Sorry for the delay, final night results to come, Heartland 6, CVAC 2 at this point.

Lincoln 95, Coker 67: Coker's ten underclassmen couldn't hang with a Lincoln team that finished non-con undefeated. This one looked like a mismatch at the tipoff and four score and 15 points later, Lincoln proved it. PoG Alton Miller poured in 22 for Lincoln.

St Mary's 74, Erskine 64: mduncanhogs got a much needed win after a brutal Yarnell. St Mary's had something to prove and it showed, shooting 63% from the floor, not missing a 3, enjoying a 10 rebound advantage, and twice as many makes/attempts from the free throw line as Erskine. When you consider those numbers, Erskine probably did well to keep the final margin within 10. PoG Stephen Parrish threw down 17, while collecting 11 boards and 3 blocks for MDH.

Queens U 71, Oklahoma Panhandle 61: Queens was a just a bit better than OkPan in this one. Queens shot the ball better from 2 point range, 3 point range, and the FT line, while enjoying a 10 rebound advantage. PoG James Gladden was the best example of Queens' efficiency, scoring 20 points on only 10 shot attempts.

Limestone 72, Valdosta St 49: The national champs from Gaffney, SC put the clamps on their neighbors to the south. Valdosta ran out of gas, scoring only 5 points during the final 7:30. Valdosta shot 37% for the game. PoG Eddie Graham had 17 points off the bench for Limestone.

Heartland 8, CVAC 4. Congrats to the Heartland.
