4 (or 5!) 20-game winners on a team Topic

Hey, the quartet of pitchers I wrote about in the first post actually led me to a World Series win.  Final results (with playoff numbers in brackets):

2002 Odalis Perez 24-5, 2.34 (2-3, 4.50)
1995 Greg Maddux 23-9, 1.58 (6-0, 1.57)
2002 Derek Lowe 20-10, 2.67 (1-1, 4.34)
1998 Brett Tomko 20-13, 4.86 (Did Not Play)

I'm surprised I won with a 112-win team; my 100-win teams usually stink it up in the post-season.  Looking at my files, this is the most wins I've ever had with a WS winner (my teams with 124, 115 and 114 wins did not end happily, massagely speaking).

Greg Maddux, Playoff God does it again.

Maddux was great.  Won his first 6 starts, then got a no-decision in his 7th when he was pitching a bit tired (team came back to win in extras anyway).

This should be considered the holy grail of team pitching records imo.  Has occurred only once in '71 as you all know (unbelievable luck...Pat Dobson???) and I can't see how it could be repeated in real life.  However, it's a definite possibility here in WIS.  In a prog with some planning you could put a staff together over a few seasons and do it....

I didn't know the 4x20 was such a rare thing (or maybe it isn't, only a few people actually responded here).  I've had it happen a number of times and never really thought it was a big deal, just something neat to see when it happens.  The one I want to get is the 3x30.  Came close a few times when two guys got to 30 wins, but just can't get the last guy to pull his weight.

Great thread, thanks for re-posting it crazystengel. I miss boogerlips and chargingryno. Where have you gone Joe Dimaggio?

My 1939 prog team has an outside shot at five 20-game winners. 53 games into the season we've got five starters with win totals of 9, 8, 7, 6 and 6. Since a playoff spot seems virtually assured (we're already up by 15 games), I've tinkered with the pitching settings to try to maximize wins for this quintet at the expense of the rest of my staff.

Will post updates as the season progresses....

Good luck. I'm sure that would be unique.

What I would like to see is 2 50-game winners...
