The last fielding update made a huge difference in Honus' value.

Skonley....who am I to question but your highlighted Hughie made 34 + plays but also 40 Errors. The 3 Ozzies listed made 20+ less errors, more DPs, more assists so it is a wash. Hughie with better Offense? Yes, but also $4m dollars more that could be used on the rest of your team.

Ozzies SB is also nearly 75% vs. 50% success for Hughie. Add Ted Williams '53 to your team for free (with the 4m savings)

If you need to "save money" in a 160 million cap you are doing something wrong.

Take the best player available, period.

That's true in, say, a 255mil cap, but in a 160mil cap, you do actually have to make *some* choices. You can't afford everyone...

Skonley, Dtown,

It's not a fair comparision without showing Jennings errors. Which is the only reason why anyone would be afraid to use him. But now that I've looked at them both closely (Boudreau and Jennings), I think Jennings is better. He'll have more errors(but not as many as you might think), and he'll make up for it with more + plays and with his bat.

It's just having a SS with 66 real life errors, 3 times the amount as Boudreau, (no matter what the year) is scary.

Nap Lajoie '01 out of position at shortstop (C-/A+). Beats all of the above at a mere <cough> $14.14mil.

In 107 GP in a $255mil league, my Lajoie has 4 errors, 21 good plays, 1 poor play, and his line is .367 .395 .531 0.926

Jennings is only highlighted because he was my player. And you're right he makes too many errors. However I look at it like this: he had 34 + plays and 40 errors for a net of -6 (roughly) bases. Ozzie has way less errors, but also way less + plays. In the above league the Wiz has a net of - 3 (roughly) bases.

So add in 50 points of BA/OBP and Hugh is a better choice for this cap. I understand your comment about Ted on the bench, but for high caps I'd rather have the money on the field than on the bench.

That said, I'm not a huge Hughie supporter by any means, as most of my teams lean toward good defense. But you can't argue with success, D-town is masterful @ $160m and the last TOC I won was at this cap (against D-Town to boot) from this very league.

The errors are listed in that table....and you are right, the errors are a little unnerving.

Thanks, this has been helpful. I noticed that my Appling only had 8 more errors than Jennings, but half as many + plays. The average for Hughie also was higher. I'll give him a try.

As for that league, I'm taking on dtown right now in the playoffs. Hopefully Hughie takes a few games off.
