I'm not afraid to admit that I'm not the best at this game (still better than Alek since I dont lose to SIM AI), so I could use a little help with an analysis of what Im doing wrong if anyone is willing. I totally understand if no one wants to help but I figured it was worth asking.

I do nnot think I should have lost the way I did here.

His team is 35 points per man better than yours. Your only offense is wishbone, and you completed 4 of 21 pass attempts. Your only defense is the 5-2. You have only four seniors; your big class will be seniors next season, a much better scenario. Above all, your opponent is the three-time defending National Champion. He was 9.5-point favorite.

What is your argument again?

Most people only run one formation so Im not sure what your point is. He only runs one as well.

What do you mean by 35 points?

Why are you being a dick? I didnt say I should have won.

Honestly that team is just far more talented. I dont think theres much you're doing wrong in the way of game planning at surface level.

Talented because of age? Im trying to understand because according to next guess we arent that far apart and I beat the top next guess team earlier in the season.

Talented by meaning higher attributes in the core categories for each position and the important secondary attributes.
For ex GI and Tech and Str in QB.But many numbers count as well. Again for ex QB, Elus to not get sacked or to be effective running. Ath some kind of modifier but higher the better. All positions have core numbers and important secondaries. Learn em. Grow em. Win or lose by em.

Ive actually modified my values based on the core and secondary attributes utilizing ratios based on importance. So it could just be they had better players near them that I didnt have access to.

I am recruiting in SD, after all, lol.

Actually, I wasn't being a dick at all. Why were you being so defensive?

If all you run is wishbone, you are at a disadvantage before you start. This game is tipped toward a passing offense. Some people have tried and tried to win with a wishbone offense, beat their heads against the same brick wall season after season, made many posts in threads in these forums about it, and with little success. And while a five man defensive line may give you an edge against a running opponent, a running opponent isn't the opponent you need to worry about.

Age matters because improvement matters. Your players get better each season, and if you have paid attention to their potential for improvement when you recruited them and you have given them the snaps and the starts they need, that improvement is very significant.

Now if you're done feeding the Alextroll and ready to learn the game, best of luck to you. Hang in there.

Your last comment in your first post was snarky so it felt dickish, considering I never said I should have won.

I've literally seen Holdaway using wishbone to win NC's. Throwing to RB's does crazy good work. 5-2 has been an experiment for me. It works somewhat. I've made it to the semi's several times and then lost close games.

I think my biggest issue was age, but also my players work ethic.

Age corresponds heavily with formation IQ as well(which coaches sometimes overlook when looking at results).

FWIW I don't think NextGUESS ratings considers IQ at all.

Yeah, so my total IQs were probably lower than his.

Funny thing is, I beat the guy who just beat him.

So I dont know.

Why do I live rent free in everyones head. I also took MSU to the SEC and won it, so whats your comment there?

You are spreading the ball around to too many people, you had 366 yards but with that FIQ and talent you could've gone for 450, I would only run the ball with your best 2 to 3 players, make sure there not in the game if they're not getting the ball, use a different QB for handoffs and only pass to 1-2 of your best receiving players. If you have enough OL in the wishbone offense, take your 2-3 best OL out of the game for 30% of your plays. Meaning when it's time to get a big play or crucial play make sure those OL are your best 5 and fresh ready to run the ball or pass to keep it going. On defense you probably don't have any sub packages bc he had 500+ on you. Sub out your best DB's on short yardage situations and keep everyone fresh for those important plays. That's just the start.

It's a lot of tweaking and work to maximize your talent each season, I even don't do things im suppose to do. Like WV, I honestly have no energy to do the things above when my team has no chance right now. But when it's time to ball, I make sure everything is in check. I even look at the game plan and make sure the tabs are set for me to expose the other team or go for it on 4th, how far I want my kicker to kick the ball. Time of possession against quality teams when I have a strong run game, the engine is made for pass but also made for stamina. You can tire out a defense if you keep the chains moving and eventually have 100 yard advantage at the end.

Not bad advice, so thanks for that.

I'll leave ya alone from now on. :P

I think there are some very solid points here.

Yeah, I implemented it and immediately beat up Texas Tech. Granted it doesn't help when you're playing #1 Texas as Iowa State, lol. I'm getting hammered.

Not a fan of D1A.
