SS at $160 cap Topic

I've played in several $160 million cap leagues and I find myself always using the 1936 Luke Appling. Offensively, he's pretty solid. But defensively, he makes close to 50 errors every season which I'm sure has cost me a game or 3.

Is there anyone at this cap with a better fielding grade (Appling is C/A) who actually produces offensively at this level? For what it's worth, I've won a couple of WS with my teams at this cap so I'm not looking for a quick fix.

I dont play high caps but why not try Nomar?

One of the Arky Vaughns is very good. Also, the old school Hughie Jennings will now get you a boat load of + plays at SS (with less errors than you used to get).

Part of the problem with high cap leagues is that old time pitchers that are commonly used don't strike anyone out leading to more chances (thus more errors) for the fielders.

i know i am not "qualified" to offer advice, but '43 Appling looks like he might work out. If you think not, it would probably benefit me greatly if you would explain why. The hitters from the mid '40's seem to normalize well. Or, since there really aren't any outstanding, over the top SSs, how much would it hurt to play someone like '06 Art Devlin at SS? Or the Honus who is B+A at SS? Would he make as many errors in the SIM? I have read some forum posts claiming that the old timers don't make as many errors since the most recent update.

Look At some Honus Wagner

If you don't mind the $10 million price tag, why not go with the 48 Boudreau? More PAs, more power, similar avg+ (lower normalized though), A-/A fielder and can fill in as catcher too. Otherwise, for a similar price tag to that appling, I always have great luck with 1996 A-Rod.

Take the good Ozzie Smith, bat him 8th, he will hit .260 and turn more DPs than the other teams. You have enough at those caps to get plenty of other hitters.....dont even worry about what he hits.

Jennings is the way to go. Not only will he hit for average and make a ton of + plays, but the HBPs he racks up are always a nice bonus.

1901 Nap Lajoie or 1935 Arky Vaughan

'35 arky vaughan is great

Hughie. Thread Closed.

Jennings for sure... then Boudreau might be my 2nd choice. Or just live with the errors from Arky or Appling. A-Rod is usually terrible for me at high caps.

Hughie batted leadoff for me in a 160M cap that just wrapped up. Team went 110-52 btw.
