1935 Foxx as Catcher? Topic

I have a high cap team about to start soon, and I drafted '35 Jimmie Foxx to do my catching. I figure his .346 and 36 HR will be very nice in Fulton County Stadium.

My question is about his defense. He is rated A/B-/B. His SB/Caught Stealing is 0/0. I assume this is because that stat was not kept accurately back in the day. I am wondering what I can expect from his B rated arm? Is that assigned to any catcher that they don't have data for? Thanks

In the draft center, you can search by CS% (CSPCT). 35 Foxx is listed at 33%. Judging by other B armed catchers, 33% appears to be at the high end of that letter grade.

At baseball-reference.com, 35 Foxx is listed as having thrown out 8 of 23 attempts (34.7%). I don't know why WIS would use different numbers, but I guess it's close enough to be realistic.

how high is the cap? If 140+, I wouldn't sweat catchers arm that much unless its really horrendous that the 50% base stealers can be successful. If a team chooses to go the ultra speed route with henderson, coleman, tim raines, etc. you will still have the edge with your power hitting lineup.

I'm confused by how WIS ranks catcher arms and stats. Before 1960 or so, they don't seem to list SBA/SB. Yet they faithfully give a CS % for all catchers going back to 1885. If they aren't keeping records of SBA/SB, how do they know what the CS% is?

The more runs you score, the less value each stolen base has. Foxx will be more than fine in that league (offensively and defensively).

They just make it up. But you need to plug something into the formula!
