Encountering a team in the first round who's 3rd starter is your ace.

Game one...your ace gets shredded. Game three...as their starter, he closes you out for the sweep.

Oh so cruel.

Yes cruel, but I can top that for cruel-er.

My 7th team ever, I take to my first TOC and get to game 7 in the championship. I have no idea how special this is and that 3 years later i would never be here again.

Top of the 9th, score 0-0. Other team gets a guy on second with two outs and Rickey Henderson drops "a lazy fly ball" (whatever the heck that is) for a 2 base error and a run scored.

I get out of the inning down 0-1.

Rickey gets caught stealing second for the last out when I had my best hitter up (Wade Boggs if I recall correct).

Lose my one and only final TOC.

I hate Rickey Henderson.

It was only the first round, but I lost Game 5 of a TOC on a balk.

THAT is cruel.

A Balk ? that is cruel. This thread is giving me the "TOC Blues".

Got any song writers here?

Don't even start with me on TOC Blues. Up 3-2 over Contrarian in a TOC Final a few weeks ago, ended up losing Game 7 in 10 innings. Up 3-1 over dougpalm in a TOC semifinal a few weeks ago, lost in game 7. Up 3-2 over bud4875 in a TOC semifinal a few months ago, lost in game 7. Anyone see a pattern emerging?

Real TOC pain? Try me, now listed as #3 in the records for Most TOC Wins, No Championship. 152 and counting. That's pain.

Actually, redwingscup, I'm #1 on that list, so NO ONE can argue with me! I've even been at a game 7 in the finals before. Now that I'm only playing progressives, I'm not sure if I'll ever see my time....

The chart is showing you as #5 on that list with 148 wins, no championships. #1 on that list is urband with an unreal 214 TOC wins, no cups.
6/3/2010 10:41 AM
not that I'm arguing with you, facts is facts.
6/3/2010 10:41 AM
You never know how things will turn out...at one time I was in the the top 3-4 on that list with over 100 wins and 0 championships. Hang in there, guys!

The last time I had any teams go anywhere in tournaments, I had three in the semifinals at the same time. They all lost.

And nowadays I see that mensu, houseofbayne, daronb and others are winning multiple tournaments in the same month.

WIS is starting to look like the salary scale of corporations: The CEO's make 700% more than the workers.

menu: When was the last time you paid for a team?

I know it's not all luck, but luck is fickle and rarely fair.

To tell you the truth, I really don't know how long its been, DT. Its been quite some time though.

I didn't win multiple TOC's last month, my teams went 1st and 2nd in the same tourney. If they had been placed in different TOC's I might have won two in the same month.

I agree...luck has a little something to do with it, but over possibly a 29 game TOC schedule, not that much. That's just my opinion...and believe me, I've had plenty of teams lose in TOC's...145 of them to be exact. I once had 4 teams placed in the same bracket...now thatwas bad luck, IMHO.
6/4/2010 9:38 PM
Not everyone who appears on that TOC Champions list on the front page actually won their tournament. Everyone who wins money (actually credits) gets on the list, so it's all of the final four teams.

I'm currently up 3-1 in a TOC final, so I'm hoping to avoid any TOC pain of my own. (Edit: Pulled out a second consecutive 5-3 10-inning win to clinch the series...no pain.)
6/4/2010 10:49 PM
I think you should view TOCs (and playoffs, for that matter) in this way: you've done your job by putting your team in a position to win it all.

Beyond that, though, you shouldn't get too excited one way or the other over the results, because there certainly is a bit of luck involved in winning several short series in a row against (for the most part) very good owners.
