does anyone have the formula for AC Souting costs? Topic

Ive tinkered around with it and got a godo match for under 720 miles, but i didnt save my work and now have no data to go off of.
does anyone have the formula handy?

There's a formula?

I've only noticed huge price breaks under 180 miles, under 360 miles, and under 1400 miles.

or for anyone going thru recruiting now, if you can post/sitemail/email me you summary (with cost and distance) and a breakdown of how the money was spent on each recruit, i'll see if i can figure it out.

yep, there is some formula with threshold benchmarks and i think its based on a MOD-5 or maybe MOD-10, i forget,

I believe these are the formulas.  They may not be exactly perfectly correct, but they should be accurate within a dollar or 2.  Some of them seem rather illogical, but I'm pretty sure they're just about right.

180 Miles or Less Away:
AC Scout:  $125 + .20/mile
HC Scout:  $225 + .30/mile
AC Home Visit:  $400 + .20/mile
HC Home Visit:  $500 + .30/mile
Campus Visit:  $800 + .125/mile

181 Miles to 360 Miles Away:
AC Scout:  $200 + .20/mile
HC Scout:  $300 + .30/mile
AC Home Visit:  $475 + .20/mile
HC Home Visit:  $575 + .30/mile
Campus Visit:  $1,000 + .125/mile

Over 360 Miles Away:
AC Scout:  $460 + .125/mile
HC Scout:  $560 + .175/mile
AC Home Visit:  $802 + .125/mile
HC Home Visit:  $1,102 + .125/mile
Campus Visit:  $1,200 + .1725/mile

There is another cut-off point.  I don't know what it is, but it's well over 1,000 miles away.  But if you are recruiting over 1,000 miles away, you had better have so much money that you don't really care about where the cut-off point is.

Maximum Amounts:
AC Scout:  $700
HC Scout:  $1,000
AC Home Visit:  $1,500
HC Home Visit:  $2,250
Campus Visit:  $3,000  (I think)

The last cutoff point is 1400 miles:

The costs are then:
AC Scout: $700 fixed
HC Scout: $1,000 fixed
AC Home Visit: $1070 + .175/mile max of $1,500
HC Home Visit: $1170 + .30/mile max of $2,250
Campus Visit: $1600 + .30/mile

I coach in Hayes World and I have yet to find a max for campus visits.  I have seen costs over $3,000. But things could have changed since this formula was given to me a long while back by an experienced HOF coach.

Do you guys really need to know to the exact cent how much a recruiting cost will be???  Maybe I'm doing something wrong.....

Back in the time before tools, we just asked someone to keep a eye on things for us. A short list of hopefuls at positions and alot of trust.

Lots of tools around.

Not many sharp ones though.

Hey, Ive been called a tool many times.

Premium Bumps
Miles Away:
<180 = 125
181-360 = 200
>360 = 433

Per Mile increase:
360 or less = 20 cents per mile (miles x .2), aka bands of 5 miles
PLUS FOR ANYTHING OVER 360:
12.5 cents per mile (miles x .125), aka bands of 8 miles
NOTE: always round DOWN

so for example, a recruit 1,253 miles away would be:
base of 433 + 360 x .2 + (1,253 -360) x .125 =  $616 for an AC scout

in excel, here it is:
MIN(ROUNDDOWN(125+IF(MILES AWAY>180,75,0)+IF(MILES AWAY>360,233,0)+MIN(360,MILES AWAY)*0.2+MAX(MILES AWAY-360,0)*0.125,0),700)

A bit judgmental, are we?  It's his time, not yours.  There are many different threads one can pull to try to get some kind of understanding of the fabric of this game.  With so much of it seemingly indecipherable, like the causality of specific attributes within the engine, I find it harsh to condemn someone's efforts as a waste.  Govolswoo picked a part of the game that can be figured out.  He asked a question and was able to answer his question 12 days later.  I've played this game enough that I already have a ball park idea of how much a recruiting action will cost and I don't feel like I need to know the exact values.  I think you feel the same.  But that doesn't mean he's wasted his time.

A couple years ago, I spent nearly a week evaluating recruit distributions (before and after a major recruit distribution revamp).  It isn't very important in the grand scheme of things (then or now), but I had a lot of fun doing the analysis and, overall, I never considered it to be a waste of time.  It just happened to be the thread I wanted to pull.

I was the one who first put that info together that tarrin posted.  One night, after 2 or 3 rum & cokes, I decided to figure out if there was any method to the madness when it came to what we pay for recruits, and I ended up with that info in the post.  I mostly did it because I was bored.

It helps when trying to figure out how much of an advantage you have over your competition.  But after a years of recruiting, I have simplified my methods.  The big thing that you need to realize is that any recruit within 180 miles is going to be relatively similar in cost, whether he's 1 mile away or 180 miles away.  The same goes for recruits between 181 & 360.  But there's a significant difference in recruits who are 179 miles away and 181 miles away.

Every couple of months, somebody suggests in the forums that coaches should recruit within 100 miles to save money when what they should really suggest is staying within 180 miles.  Also, in the upper levels, some people are hesitant to recruit beyond 500 miles or 1000 miles due to cost.  But signing someone 1350 miles away isn't that much more than someone 400 miles away when you start doing the math.

WIS really should change the recruiting distances in the drop down menu to 180, 360, and 1400 instead of 100, 250, 360, and 1500.
