Practice Plans? Topic

I got this player with the following potentials:

Potential
  Current
Rating
Potential     Current
Rating
Potential
Athleticism 41 High   Perimeter 12 High
Speed 33 High   Ball Handling 15 High
Rebounding 31 High   Passing 25 High
Defense 26 High   Stamina 57 High
Shot Blocking 34 High   Durability 62 Average
Low-post 27 High   FT Shooting   High

I had a specific plan set up and it looked good, but at midterm, he came back with a 1.5 gpa, so I bumped up his SH to 22min, with 25min in O/D. That leaves only 58min for practice. How would you set up his practice with only 58min? Abandon lp/per and leave them at 3, while jacking up conditioning, with 8 in everything else?

Did you get scouting trips off? Both LP/PER high highs? if they're high highs, I'd leave some points in those and then risk some free throw/bh/pass by lowering it until he gets it together in the classroom. That guys filthy though.

he's a redshirt, so do you need to have the study minutes at all?
i know that for his following years his GPA will be cumulative and that a low freshman GPA will hurt him, but do you really need 22 SH min?

I never give my redshirts any SH minutes even if they are an idiot...22 minutes seem like a really high amount. I think the most I have ever given a guy is like 11...and I have had only 3, maybe 4 ineligibles in all my seasons (they haven't been important players either).

He got a 1.5 with 8min, so I decided to jack it up so he's not saddled with something in the 1 range. From what I know, low FR gpa makes it harder for him to pass in the following years. I don't want to have him get a 1.2 FR year and then be forced to put in 15-20min for the next 4 yrs. Although my thinking could be flawed.

I'm also fairly certain that ineligible player grow slower so idk about purposely failing here.

I think bumping it up to 11 or 12 minutes would probably get him to pass if thats what you are looking for him to do. Having 22 in there is just wasting practice minutes imo. Especially with all the potential this guy has.

I'd put the minutes into DEF, BH, & Pass and get them up for the start of next season. As far as I know, the minimum for LP/PER is 4 minutes and you can drop OFF/DEF to 24 minutes each and gain 2 minutes (yes, you'll have to adjust the rest of the team, but 24 minutes works quite well).

He had a 1.5 with 8 mins. The odds that bumping it to 11-12 would do it are poor. Personally, I wouldn't let him go ineligible, and I'd sacrifice bh and pa.

If he rs what is the harm in going ineligible? Also I thought if players became ineligible, they went to summer school and car back next season with a 2.0.

The harm is you have to spend significantly more minutes on SH the following season(s).

At one point, ending the season ineligible also was supposed to affect offseason growth, no idea if that's still in play or not.

If he goes in eligible his growth for the season stops.

Not true.  Only players who are ineligible when you sign them stay the same.  If a player fails, they still practice, but are unable to play.

from FAQ:

Q: What happens if one of my players becomes academically ineligible?
A: Couple of things will happen - you'll lose the player for the next semester (he'll still be on the roster and can practice but just won't be eligible to play). If his cumulative GPA is still not above 2.0 at the end of the next semester, he'll be academically ineligible for another semester. In addition, each time you lose a player to academics, your reputation will take a hit. Remember, these kids are here to get an education. This isn't a minor league program for the NBA you know.

This is 100% false.

**Edit**  Just saw that Anadeau posted the same thing, sorry.
