09-10 players are released!

I like how there's no official forum post up.

There is lots of positional flexbility in the back court.  I really like this.  There isn't much flexibility in the front court.  Wilt can't play PF.  Neither can Kareem, Gilmore or Mutombo.  Barkley ain't 100% at SF anymore.  At least the Mailman ain't either, or Moses.  OR TROY MURPHY (hallelujah!)  Haven't checked many others, but I assume they won't be either with the trends of the guys I have seen.  I kind of like that in one respect:  Things will seem more realistic there.  I am very disappointed that I won't be able to use Wilt as a PF, which I have absolutely zero doubt that he could play.  The Barkley/Murphy thing is going to mean that real SFs will be more usable.  You can use SFs that could play SG as SFs now.

Larry Bird isn't 100% effective at SF for every season....................

This is really going to change the look of teams prior to the release. I had four teams put together in the draft section and all four were from 6 to 8 million over the 42 million allowed in open leagues. Say goodbye to the cookie cutter although it will come back with a different look. The 01-02 Reggie went from 3.7 to something like 6.8 and Rice is close to 7 mil now. Oh well the changes will make it a different challenge.  I like it :)

Yep.  Also, Pippen is 100% effective at SG and SF every season but Jordan isn't.  I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't like the lack of consistency from season to season.

Wow, LeBron can actually play every position most seasons.

Ray Allen has seasons of 100% at PG, SG and SF while Rodman has some seasons where he's only 100% at PF....................

The sim wasn't perfect before and there's no reason to expect it to be now. There were positional issues before, there will be again.

Anybody else think we may have gone overboard with the salary increases?  I think the increase on 3pt shooting, rebounding, higher usage offense and the first couple of % increases were enough... I haven't tried yet, but I'm pretty sure making real life teams is going to be impossible now.  I know I have had tremendous trouble building an OL team.

edit:  nvm on the not building real teams... it's possible... sort of

09-10 teams are within a mil either way with ORL within $70k, so I'd say that is pretty realistic!
I look forward to using some guys we haven't been able to use in awhile  ..those who shoot under 47%..  I don't think eFG will rule the sim as much.   I actually want to try an OL team again.

again (this was 3 years ago but whatever) - the base cap should not be about building a 'real team' because that does not appeal to the average user of this site - it used to be about what if you built a team with Larry and Magic et al etc - cant do that now- havent been able to do that for 3 years but not because of salaries but because of the engine valuation

all we've done is reshuffle valuation - it will make for a period of time where we are searching for new cookie cutters but it wont fix the real problem - a team of bill russell, magic, larry and mike still wont beat moses rodman nash allen and peja because it's stats not reality

and because defense was not taken into account!  Maybe that dream team will beat the 3 point bombers in this version.

That was my biggest gripe by far-just decrease the price of defense or increase it's effect and it's all good.  Coulda changed the sim in about 2 minutes....

A couple things-
1. The SIM was much more active 3 years ago than it is today because there was at least SOME challenge, and there were many more players to use.

2. Until WIS really dedicates some time and money to the SIM, there will always be major problems.  Having 1 guy work on the SIM in his spare time is not going to get it where it needs to be.  They need to dedicate a lot of hours into researching player-seasons.

3. This is going to be tough.   Especially the bench guys.

One problem with a team featuring Larry, Magic, and Michael is that the sim doesn't properly improve efficiency when you have a bunch of high usage guys (although it does do the opposite).  If those three were playing together, the majority of their shots would be much more open than any of them saw individually (we'll see a good example of this with the 2011 Miami Heat) and not just due to good passing (i.e. the assists effect that the sim does take into account) but due to less attention from the defense (not just less "double-teaming").

Their efficiencies would also be improved because they're forced into less bad shots (every #1 option on any team throughout history has a couple shots a game that are just terrible but he's forced to take because even though they're terrible, it's still the only remaining shot for his team, whether it's to beat the shot clock or whatever, and this pulls down their efficiency).
