Obama: Worst President Ever? Topic

When you're responding to everyone else and disappear, I assume you're avoiding a question.  Your response confirmed it.

A simple yes or no will do.    Do you think SSM are necessary for the existence or survival of the human race?   Yes or No.

Don't be mad at me.  You provided the court ruling.   And I said "thanks".

Hell, I'll even re-phrase if for you.

Removing religious aspects of child-bearing, do you think MARRIAGE is necessary for the existence or survival of the human race?   Yes or No.

I am at work, so sometimes have time to respond once but have to wait a few minutes before responding again.

In a literal sense, no.  Marriage is not necessary for the existence or survival of humans.

Now that I've answered your question, is there a legal reason to deny same sex couples the right to marry?

You'd have to convince me that marriage is a right.   I don't think it is.   You're required to get a license.   Much like you're required to get a gun license, register to vote or get a driver's license.    If there are guidelines for your inclusion in an activity, seems like it's a privilege.

Voting is a right, not a privilege.  Gun ownership too, for the most part.

If I have to register, and can be denied, it doesn't seem like a right.
You can't say "for the most part" and pretend it's the same thing.

As I said, if there are guidelines for your inclusion, it doesn't seem like a right.

The Federalist papers also argued against specifically amending a "Bill of Rights" (arguably, the most important section of the Constitution) onto the Constitution.

So the Federalist papers are not exactly "perfect" documents.
I never said they were perfect. Swamphawk expressed disbelief that the founders would be ok with a judge overruling a majority vote. They clearly designed the system to work that way as evidenced by the federalist papers.
You are not getting the point.

This isnt a group of people in one state, this is most of the states, and often by huge margins.

This is a clear mandate.

And, yes, I do think there has to be guidelines for marriage.

A successful society has to have rules.

There was a clear mandate for jim crow laws.

A clear mandate alone does not guarantee that a law is constitutional.

Voting is absolutely a right.  And you have to register to do it.

I was hedging on the gun ownership because I don't know gun laws very well.  Gun ownership is a right, but there are more restrictions than voting.

Guidelines for something that is pointless without the religious background?

If your right can be revoked or denied, it doesn't feel like a right.    If you've been paying attention, you'd know that I've said, repeatedly, that your "rights" are what the governing body says they are when they say they are.   You can't just scream "I KNOW MY RIGHTS" and think anyone cares.

I don't care if you think it  doesn't "feel" like a right.  Voting is a right.
