Obama: Worst President Ever? Topic

You can go live in a shanty in the mountains, Kacynski.  The government won't interfere with your private life at all.

The CA state supreme court granted same sex couples the right to marry.

Then a bunch of activists got involved and passed a proposition taking away that right.

Because of those activists, we have more government in our lives, telling us who can and can't get married.

Isn't the whole problem the gov't acknowledging(or not) SSM?    By getting married, you're enabling to gov't to be in your life, right?

I'm asking you if you think marriage is a right.  I've answered a ton of your questions so far.  I don't think you've answered many of mine.

     Is marriage a right?

If a law was passed that said only Christians can legally marry would that be ok?

What if the law said only people of the same race can legally marry?
Sorry.  I'm not going to let you deflect a direct question by turning it around to asking me questions.  I'm holding your feet to the fire on this one.

Why, in your mind, is same-sex marriage an inalienable right when thousands of years of human culture and social norms argue against it?

Marriage has meant many different things to many different people for thousands of years.

Is marriage itself a right?

Sorry, that's deflecting the question again.

Why do YOU think that same-sex marriage is an inalienable right?

Yes, same sex marriage is a right.  As is heterosexual marriage.

Do you think marriage itself is a right?

It's right when the government says you've met certain conditions.

Like gun ownership, voting, driving a vehicle, etc, etc.

Sure.  But those conditions apply to everyone regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, etc.

I didn't ask if you thought same-sex marriage was a right.  You've been arguing that for 20+ pages, so obviously you do.

I asked WHY you think same-sex marriage is a right.

Except when they don't.

If you can't see to a certain standard, you can't drive.
If you have a criminal record, you can't own a gun.
If you're a convicted felon, you can't vote.
If you're in a relationship that doesn't have an equal ratio of *****/vagina, you can't get married.

Get it?

How about:

You can't get married because your girlfriend is black and you are white.  Same rule applies to everyone.

Is that law ok?

Or how about, everyone can get married as long as they marry someone of the same religion?

Is that ok?

Sure, I'm fine with both of tose suggestions.    Mostly because I don't care who gets married and who doesn't.   If the people I help vote into office want to make laws, well, I helped vote them into office.  No one to blame but me.

You're OK with banning interracial marriage?

You're also OK with banning marriage between people of different religions?

Wow.
