Obama: Worst President Ever? Topic

I don't think gay marriage is a religious view.   Surely, at some point, someone said "Marriage is between a man and a woman" and laws were made based on that.   Not sure where they got the info that influenced their decision but I'm guessing it's religion-based.

You brought up the bible, not me.

That is a bit confusing.   I don't know of a religion that says "Marriage can be between members of the same sex."  Maybe there is one.
My religion says its ok. But it doesn't matter. We don't make laws based on religious rules.

Would you like to venture a guess as to where this came from?   "Marriage is between a man and a woman"

Polygamy seems to be illegal.

It's tradition going back to when marriages were arraigned and daughters were sold off with goats. "The way we've done it before" doesn't mean we can't allow others to do it differently.

And for the government to discriminate against a group of people, there needs to be a compelling legal reason. And, so far, a compelling legal reason doesn't exist.

Polygamy is illegal for everyone. The government doesn't allow it for some and not others.

Seems that some religions find it OK.   Much like your religion approves of same sex marriage.

The government allows for everyone to be married.   To the opposite sex.  One at a time.    You can't marry 3-4 people and you can't marry a turnip.   Seems that there are specifc rules to getting married.

Felons can't vote.
Naturalized citizens can't be President.

Why?
Are convicted felons incapable of making rational political decisions?
If you're not born in the US are you incapable of leading the country?

DISCRIMINATION!!!!!

My religion says its ok. But it doesn't matter. We don't make laws based on religious rules.
Most laws are based upon a morality of right and wrong, which is generally based on long standing social and cultural norms that are traditionally based in regligious beliefs.  "Thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not covet your neighbor's wife, etc."

Anxiously awaiting your denial of any link between laws, morality and religion.

Again, we don't make laws to suit religious views. If your religion forbids same sex marriage, don't marry someone of the same sex.

The government allows some couples in legal, committed relationships to marry. Others in legal, committed relationships are denied that right. In order to do that, the government needs a compelling legal reason. I'm still waiting for you to give me one.

DISCRIMINATION!!!!!
Many states allow felons to vote.

But beside the point, there are valid legal reasons for those distinctions.

There is absolutely a link. But religious views alone aren't enough to make law.

I dont know them. But I wouldn't stand in the way of a challenge to those laws.

Please list the legal reasons to deny same sex couples the right to marry.

I've already told you it's religion-based.   You're the one claiming that there has to be compelling legal reasons to discriminate against a group of people.   I don't think "compelling legal reasons" is the only reason specific laws are made.
