The stimulus was not a big tax break. It was a huge spending bill. Almost everything that Obama called tax cuts were just money give aways.

We need to watch the way Obama juggles the english language to fit his propoganda.

The largest chunk of the 2009 recovery act was tax breaks. 

The next biggest chunk went to education, transportation, and infrastructure. The last chunk went mostly to medicare and unemployment.

I'll repeat again for you.    Just because YOU want to limit the discussion to one topic, it doesn't mean everyone will follow your lead.

Part of the deficit talk was of wasteful spending.    When others are talking about $84 that DOD pays for a $4 hammer, they're not talking deficit.  They're talking wasteful spending.   They're not talking savings accounts, treasury notes or deficit reduction. They talking about the government ******* away money and, as toddcomm noted, he'd rather spend that $80, hell maybe he buys pot with it, and get $80 worth of goods than the government pay 20x the value of a particular good.

If we're talking about the choice between overpaying for a wrench or putting that money back into your pocket or mine to buy groceries, pay the mortgage, etc, then it's better to leave it with us.

But if the choice is overpay and keep the deficit or not spend it (and not give anything back to taxpayers since it's a deficit), then the better choice right now is to spend it.

$83.75 goes to a company that sells wrenches. It's inefficient and wasteful but it's $83.75 moving through the economy instead of sitting in a savings account somewhere.

I've said, multiple times now, that tax breaks are good. You spend your money better than the government. What point are you trying to make?

The deficit is funded by treasury bonds.

People without savings don't buy treasury bonds.

Exactly. Wasteful spending adds to the deficit. The deficit is funded by treasuries. People without savings don't buy treasuries.

That is the money our government collects. But unless you're going to argue that $1.2 trillion of federal outlays is waste, eliminating waste doesn't get us down to tax revenues, it just reduces part of the deficit.

So, IOW, tax money is part of the revenue.
